Good Counsel

We love our public elementary but the middle school we are zoned for has a lot of problems so have been starting to think about options for middle and high school.

I’d look for k-8 Catholic schools near you. We transferred from public to a k-8 catholic for 7-8th grade and both our kids got into multiple Catholic high schools. The k-8 Catholics do a good job of prepping the kids to get into Catholic high schools. Plus, the k-8s are generally a positive nurturing environment with small class sizes where the kids have individual relationships with the teachers and administrators.

I’m in Arlignton and the Catholic school here has 26 kids per class Not exactly small classes.

Sorry. I just assumed you were in Maryland (where there is a plethora of small Catholic schools) since you were considering good counsel.

Sounds impossible to me.

Isn’t O’Connell pretty much the same thing … but an hour closer?

I missed that - what was said?

very possible

If you aren't DC elite yet want a private Catholic education you would send your kids here. Kids at the elite Catholic schools regard Good Counsel as socially irrelevant and their families definitely look down their nose at those there. Seems like money spent for no reason.

Looking down their noses watching the top GC dance past them into Yale, Dartmouth, Northwestern, ND, etc al.

Only a troll would post this 3 months after the thread had quieted. Epic fail at whatever you were trying to accomplish.
GC students are happy well rounded students. Their school spirit alone debunks this ridiculous claim of "social irrelevance"

My above average son was waitlisted. As the kids say, stop the CAP!

We went to the Open House today. It.is.not.that.great.

Lol. What didn't impress you?

The vibe.
The dancers.

Translation: too diverse.

DP: It was very diverse (which didn’t bother me). But the hyper sexual dance routines were a bit much for a Sunday morning at a catholic school open house. I think the band was awesome and the dancers were an unnecessary distraction.

exactly, can't we just have the white cheerleaders and poms.

Here is their dance program.

https://www.olgchs.org/arts/dance

They also have pom https://www.olgchs.org/poms
and cheerleaders https://www.olgchs.org/cheerleading

DP. Wow, are you intimating that white dancers and cheerleaders always have wholesome dance routines and dancers or cheerleaders who are POC always do hypersexualized dance routines? You need to get your head out of your butt.

Can you not understand that someone could find a dance routine a bit much regardless of who is doing the dancing?

No im saying the poster saw POC dancing and sexualized them like a perv and they would not do that to volleyball players or poms, who are generally white. or maybe they sexualize them too but either way, it’s disgusting to go to an open house and sexualized teenage girls.

And by the way, the good counsel is one of the few schools that have poms, cheerleaders, and dancers. Lots of great opportunities for young women.

Ok let me be clearer. I am a Black woman. I like to dance. I like hip hop, R&B and pop music and also watch music videos sometimes. I have NO issues with Black bodies dancing. I went to this particular open house session primarily to hear the band. The dancing was too suggestive for a CATHOLIC school. It was uncomfortable for most people in the audience which is why most of them left. This isn’t public school where anything goes. The dancing was inconsistent with everything else I saw about the school at open house. Please stop trying to infuse “woke-ism” into every criticism regarding people of color. I know what I saw and so did everyone else who was in the audience. We all left and thought, “WTF??”

You shouldn't chose a school based on the dancers.

Between this thread and another about GC getting bumped from July, I sense a troll in our midst. GC started thanksgiving break today. Bored kids!

As the kids say… for real. These people are so insensitive let them take their UMBC: many northweseterns and emories, tufts, brown, and Cornell, chapel hill and more this year.
