What do people mean when they just say "terrier"? Pitbulls are American Pitbull Terriers. There are Yorkshire Terriers, Boston Terriers. Rat Terriers. None of these dogs are similar. I get that AKC has a specific Terrier group, I just don't see the connection between these dogs aside from the name.
Thanks.

Agree. I had a rat terrier mix. Sweetest, best dog ever!

I love standard poodles, working line GSD, Jack/Parson Russell terriers, most mixed breeds.
Not fond of the aesthetic on English/French bulldogs, pugs, Boston terrier, bull terrier, but I really don't dislike any dog, unless it is just mean.

Love all dogs especially pugs.

Don't like: any pit bulls, anything small and squeaky, most doodles

Just curious do you not like dogs that are pure bred like American pit bull terrier or Staffordshire terrier? Or is it all dogs that have some pit ( like 10 percent American pit bull terrier and 50% lab and 40 percent Border collie?

I like neither purebred pit bull terriers nor pit mixes. I've raised working dogs (Malinois, Samoyed, Chinook, Buhund, Kuvasz, etc.), and I've also raised a few rescues. It's been my requirement that my rescues contain no pit lineage.

In re: the PP's question about terriers, I think people who don't like them object to their tenacity, feistiness, and propensity for noise and nipping. I've had family Airedales and Jack Russells, and while I can appreciate them as Good Dogs, I can also say I wouldn't choose them as my own pets.

My brother just adopted a purebred Husky, and while it's not the right dog for an inexperienced owner, that pup is gorgeous and smart and soft and awesome! So I'm adding Husky to my list.

So a dog that has 5 percent American pit bull terrier and 95 percent golden? I don't get that. See I have a American pit bull terrier/Siberian husky mix and I don't like the Husky part. I would never get a full breed Siberian!

Favorites: hounds, especially beagles, Great Danes

Dislike: pit bulls, cattle dogs (any herding breed is a bit much to me) and my highly unpopular opinion, labs
Anonymous
Love: most toy breeds, many tall lanky sleek breeds, shelter dogs, mixed up mutts, old dogs, all puppies, calm and patient dogs, spunky fun loving dogs

Not a fan of the personality: malamute, husky, German short-haired pointer, German Shepard, Intense dogs whose brains are one track minds, dogs that don't get along with other dogs or don't like children, hyper obsessive dogs that cannot be distracted

Sweet but I would never want: Any dog bred to be uncomfortable

My favorites: Alaskan malamutes, had them for 15 years
Don’t like: small, yappy dogs
Anonymous
Love: Newfies, Great Danes, malamutes, St. Bernard, Bernese mountain dogs, basset hounds, Irish setters, Great Pyrenees, Australian shepherds

Don’t like: pitbulls, toy breeds, designer dogs

Love: Labs. We are on our third Lab now. Friendly, fairly easy to train.

Dislike: Any small yappy dog. I couldn’t stand listening to that.

Dislike: Dogs that growl or threaten for no reason. Also, Jack Russell terriers because F those little aholes.

There is always a reason. This is theie communication.

In that case, dogs whose reason for growling and threatening is that you are existing with another dog across the street.

these dogs are fearful and again communicating. Would you rather a dog wag it's tail and then bite you? When you see a dog with "big" emotions just move on and be grateful you don't have that. My dog will do this occasionally but, we are working very hard to get his big feelings under control.

Dogs are not robots

Love Huskies, Samoyeds, Labs, Retrievers, sometimes Vischlas. Also love Great Danes though would never have one.

Dislike terriers, schnauzers, all kinds of poodles/doodles, bulldogs, pit bulls and all pit mixes, Australian shepherds (actually most herding breeds), there are others I can't think of.

When I say "dislike" I don't mean I am going to hate every dog in that breed, just that I've found our temperaments don't tend to mix well and I wouldn't adopt one. Most of the breeds I dislike have been bred for certain behaviors that I find irritating.

I'm neutral on grey hounds. They are more similar to the dogs I tend to like but I think like vischlas, there could be an issue with the level of exercise they demand. Also most grey hound owners I've met have been kind of different and that makes me think it's a kind of bespoke dog breed that maybe doesn't suit a lot of people. Also like Great Danes, I believe they have a lot of health issues associated with the breed.

Like the idea of: the real weird working ones I’ll never have - the ones bred to fight off threats to livestock (I just don’t need that much dog!)

Strongly dislike: pit bulls and terriers, there’s something about the last few corgis I met I didn’t like

There was a great pyr that saved his sheep from a pack of coyotes I think! They make great pets but they are independent thinkers so you have to deal with that. They think they know better than you. Perhaps they do.

I thought I hated corgis but really it was just the ahole owner who walked them off-leash and let them approach my leashed dog. grrr.

I like Shiba Inus.
