I don't. When I was 14, I worked as a cashier at a large chain grocery store (like Wegmans or Publix). There was a guy whose entire job was to walk around the parking lot collecting shopping carts and bringing them to the front of the store. If everyone returned their shopping carts, he'd have been out of a job.

i agree, it's very regional, in the detroit area nobody, and i mean nobody, returns their carts. i think it is because a) MI is very flat and so carts are unlikely to roll away; and 2) grocery jobs are all unionized, i've had cart guys scold me for putting my cart back because it is bad for job security

Wow never thought of it this way. but I suppose cart guys would be out of a job then.

Let people off the train and bus before you get on.

Do the peanut butter first, wipe the knife clean on the other slice of bread, then the jelly.

And the elevator!

This is a good one.

Don’t tell anyone where you’re applying to college.

Don’t share test prep.

Alternatively, the squeaky wheel gets the oil.

Squeaky wheel, yes. That’s verry differently than being pushy. I’ve seen kids point blank ask for things they don’t deserve and didn’t earn. Adults in a position of power can see discern between the kids who do the work and do it well v the kids who rudely ask why they didn’t get xyz. It takes some social grace to navigate these situations. Advocating for yourself is an important skill. But being pushy is a net negative.

But if you return it to a corral in the middle of the parking lot it still needs to be taken back to the inside of the store - so the cart guy would still have a job…an easier one…if everyone returned their carts.

I don’t either.

It’s always easier to be proactive and maintain things from the beginning (grades, chores, dentist appts, 401K, home maintenance) etc than deal with problems or make up ground later.

Hold your cards close, and listen far more than you speak. Never gossip.

People will treat you the way you allow them to.

Never start fights- but if a fight is forced upon you, finish it.

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
