My non competitive kid likes church choir for voice stuff. Community theatre is also good although some people (especially the performers) can get crazy intense about it. Crew tends to be more chill. Coding, there are tons of open source activity type things like hacktoberfest and advent of code that are just for fun. Not necessarily teen oriented but could be fun nonetheless. I don’t know enough about chess as a club activity to judge but couldn’t he play with dad and friend? Or if he likes games in general as some folks suggested look into tween/teen groups at a game shop or library. |
| School of Rock is great if he likes to sing. They put kids together into bands and teach them together -- the singers, instrument players, etc. They practice together and perform shows every few months. |
