PPs are right that this situation was upsetting, but not unsafe. Also: OP how did you learn that a teacher "asked" your kid to board the wrong bus? Have you spoken with anybody at the school? How did you learn they were on the wrong bus? What happened? Lots of facts missing here. |
I remember it happening to me too in first grade...in a time before cell phones and when "tracking" was not at all possible. IT took a while to get in touch with my parents while I waited at the school. It sucked, but I was fine....and never unsafe. |
"Upsetting but not unsafe" is such good framing here, and I hope OP can hear it. No, this should not have happened, but it did. The good news is that no one was injured or even endangered. A kid took a bus ride they didn't need to take, and was safely returned to school at the end. In your journey through public education (or even private education), this is not the last time your child will be upset but not unsafe. Try to have some perspective, get up this morning, and put on a brave face for your kid. Assure them you'll be waiting again today, and you know they can do it. |
Yes they do. They have multiple real time trackers on buses. All purchased by board of education. |
Not blaming you here, but there should be a way to get more people to double check that the little kids are where they're supposed to be. MCPS has a huge budget, and it's disheartening that you're left in limbo with a ton of kids trying to do everything right. You need more help, Teacher. |
Seriously? How in the world was the 5yo supposed to know he was put on the wrong bus, on the first day of school?? (not OP) |
5 year old may not have exactly followed the teachers instructions about which bus either. |
I knew what bus to take. But when you’re 5 years old you listen to adults. I went on the wrong bus because the teacher told me to. |
My sister missed her stop on the first day of kindergarten and my dad had to run home, jump in the car, and chase her down at a different stop. 30 years ago: before cell phones or AirTags. She survived.
“The kids will be alright.” |
What school? |
