My kids are grown now, but the buses were always chaotic at the start of the year. I remember my kids telling me that the bus was so crowded some kids rode in the center aisle. I made sure they knew not to do that, even if it meant they had to call me and wait at school until I picked them up.

I don’t know about tracking, although these days with cell phone tracking, air tags, etc., I’d expect there to be some sort of locator. I’m sure they at least have communication (even when my kids started they had radios, today it’s probably cells).

It should not be normal, but it happens, and when it does, it's very stressful. I hope your child is feeling better now, OP.

Can you suggest where to complain for negligence ? I don’t expect much from mcps but this is something horrible and can turn out pretty bad for soemone..

I’m a teacher and today we had a pre-k student with zero identification dropped off at school. He had no idea what his name was. We only found out at dismissal when his mom picked him up. Unbelievable.

But it didn’t. See?

Negligence? Did your kid make it back to school (which is what should happen when a kid gets on the wrong bus)? If so, they weren't negligent. Sheesh.

Why doesn’t your 5 year old know which bus she rides? Did you not put her on the bus this morning? I’m shocked how many kids can’t answer the questions “how did you get to school? How do you go home?” They don’t even know if they are a bus or car rider…

So they can put your kid on any bud for ride and you need to wait for it.. don’t you think things can turn ugly any time in this situation.. they don’t have real time tracker of the bud…

So put an AirTag in your kids bag. Or get them a gizmo watch. It will be fine - take some deep breaths.

I put an apple tag in my child's backpack. (special needs) Never has been on wrong bus but more to get a sense of when child is coming home.

Everyone is trying to get everything right. People take this very seriously. But no system is 100%. That’s why there are contingency plans and protocols for when things don’t go right. And apparently they worked because your child is home safe.

Definitely contact the teacher and principal or AP. Also teach your child their bus number and what to do if someone sends them to a bus with a different number.

Today was first day . She was tagged properly but person who was in charge didn’t see tag and asked her to board wrong bus..

On his first day of kindergarten MCPS put my nephew on the bus to go home (the right bus) instead of staying at the scho for aftercare as he should have, and no one was there at the bus stop for him because he shouldn’t have been on the bus. Then while MCPS was in the process of getting him back to the school after they had identified the problem, the thunderstorm that was happening downed a live electrical wire right in front of the bus he was on and he had stay there and wait for emergency vehicles to help, all while being attacked by a hungry mosquito.

He started his first week teaching middle school last week.

It's upsetting. But nothing bad happened. This too shall pass.
