I mean, actual Indian people will rage about "chai tea," especially the Starbucks variety, which is neither chai nor even tea, and definitely not chai tea (which just means tea tea).

However, I actually like Starbucks chai, I just wish they'd call it something else. It tastes good though.

People do a lot of weird virtue signaling with their food preferences and I think it's a waste of time. If you don't like pumpkin spice, don't consume it -- it's exceedingly easy to avoid by simply not ordering those items. Are they mad they have to see an ad for pumpkin spice? This is DC -- I've heard ads for aircraft carriers on the radio. I don't want one of those either. Grow up.

People like OP and others who are upset that other people might enjoy something they've deemed uncool or bougie or basic or whatever are tiresome. Luckily, unlike OP, I don't find it that hard to just ignore things that ignore me.

This is America....the land of a the great melting pot, this is not back home. We have places that are creative with chai flavorings where they make teas to lattes, so sorry, in America yes it is "chai tea" which helps differentiate versus something like "chai latte". We don't say football in America either but say soccer. You need to adapt.

The difference between "chai (tea)" and "chai (tea) latte" is the "latte" (milk), not the "tea".

Americans say "chai tea" because we knew lots of other teas first and chai (Indian traditional-style spice tea) joined our party later.

I call "takeout" "takeout." I also don't say "spot on" or "whilst" or any of a jillion other Anglicisms that my peers seem to have fallen in love with.

But "chai" is spiced tea made with milk. So "chai tea latte" is "milky spiced tea tea with milk."

That’s OK but it’s nothing like eggnog latte. That was my once or twice a season treat and I miss it. Apparently the eggnog messes up the machines.
