Oh that’s right, because chai tea is ‘exotic’ and ethnic, while pumpkin spice is perceived to be for suburban moms.

I mean, actual Indian people will rage about "chai tea," especially the Starbucks variety, which is neither chai nor even tea, and definitely not chai tea (which just means tea tea).

However, I actually like Starbucks chai, I just wish they'd call it something else. It tastes good though.

I also like actual chai.

I also like pumpkin spice.

People do a lot of weird virtue signaling with their food preferences and I think it's a waste of time. If you don't like pumpkin spice, don't consume it -- it's exceedingly easy to avoid by simply not ordering those items. Are they mad they have to see an ad for pumpkin spice? This is DC -- I've heard ads for aircraft carriers on the radio. I don't want one of those either. Grow up.

People like OP and others who are upset that other people might enjoy something they've deemed uncool or bougie or basic or whatever are tiresome. Luckily, unlike OP, I don't find it that hard to just ignore things that ignore me.

Damn. I just thought the post was meant to be funny and lots of great quips would follow. Thanks to those of you who did but we just can’t have nice things.

Ignore the hall monitors. There are a lot of unfunny people in DC.

Yes, because the people complaining about pumpkin spice in 2023 are on the cutting edge of comedy and definitely not giving into controlling, judgmental impulses

Not "chai tea." Just "chai."

This is America....the land of a the great melting pot, this is not back home. We have places that are creative with chai flavorings where they make teas to lattes, so sorry, in America yes it is "chai tea" which helps differentiate versus something like "chai latte". We don't say football in America either but say soccer. You need to adapt.

Excuse me?

The difference between "chai (tea)" and "chai (tea) latte" is the "latte" (milk), not the "tea".

Americans say "chai tea" because we knew lots of other teas first and chai (Indian traditional-style spice tea) joined our party later.

Cucumbers are fantastic. Coconut is the devil’s pubes. And I agree with OP about pumpkin spice.

Yay! More pumpkin spice for me. I always get one on my birthday. After reading this thread I went to Lidl and got all the pumpkin spice. Yogurt, cream cheese, whipped cream and oatmeal

The pp probably also calls getting take-out from a restaurant “take away”

I call "takeout" "takeout." I also don't say "spot on" or "whilst" or any of a jillion other Anglicisms that my peers seem to have fallen in love with.

But "chai" is spiced tea made with milk. So "chai tea latte" is "milky spiced tea tea with milk."

Pumpkins ripen in August, not October. It’s okay to eat pumpkin flavor or spiced foods right now.

You can keep that pumpkin spice latte but I will make a trip to Dairy Queen in the appropriate month of October for their Pumpkin Pie Blizzard.

That’s OK but it’s nothing like eggnog latte. That was my once or twice a season treat and I miss it. Apparently the eggnog messes up the machines.

I like pumpkin spice, but I don't think OP's opinion is all that unpopular. Seems more people hate on PS than actually like it.
