The Georgia Mug Shots

I thought people weren't allowed to smile in mug shots.

Yes I was thinking that too. No hair dye and sweat running down his face.

I have a theory.

1. Nobody is convicted based on their booking photo. Not sure the jury even sees it. It does not affect the trial.

2. She's a woman in law, and 38 years old. Long after this is over, guilty or innocent, jail or no jail, that photo will come up every time somebody searches her name personally, professionally, etc. Nobody will care about the bald white guys' booking photos. But hers? They will see that photo and judge her by it.

Sad but true.

Are you absolutely sure about that? These were up yesterday. We'll wait while you admit you were wrong.

No, go to the Fox “News” website and find it. Don’t search it, see how far down it is.

Hint: it’s not there. You had to search it because it’s buried. If you think that’s a news website, you’re not a smart person.

Look, you were wrong. No one actually thinks you're going to admit it, but you know it as well as the rest of us. Those mug shots were indeed on Fox News - and a whole day before you got around to posting. You were saying something about "not a smart person"?

So go scroll the website. The front page is dire mix of laughable and execrable. It’s not news. Real news is buried and has to be searched for, and even then it’s slanted to the point of propaganda, which is, of course, the point of Fox.

Which is why, entertaining as one might be finding these particular photos, the Georgia policy on this is bad. Simply being arrested, which happens to a lot of innocent people of color, should not mean this photo that makes you look like a criminal is out there forever even if charges are dropped or you are acquitted.

It’s not just woman. Tom Delay famously dressed-up for and smile for his mugshot back in the day:

Not to mention, John Edwards…

They don't really have a choice. Mug shots are public record, as is an arrest.
