No. They have to repeat math they have already done at Basis, which is boring and a waste of time.

They only repeat Geometry. And at this point DCPS is very clear as to what they will get credit for. So it’s a choice those families are making.

Actually in 9th basis kids who switch to walls have to repeat geometry, biology, and world history …..

NP here. Basis to walls requires a ton of repetition. It is the main reason kids on the fence stay at Basis. Basically they get no credo for an entire year, so they have to repeat the classes and go to school an extra year (basis senior year is not a standard year).

So ... since it is all a repeat they should be hitting it out of the park and be at the top of the class for applying to the GW program.

What’s going on with the BASIS math PARCC? It looks like they gave geometry to the 9th graders and … algebra I to the 10th graders??

Sorry guys, wrong thread!

Lol. Most 9th graders are taking Algebra I and not actually learning Algebra, according to PARCC data

Anonymous wrote:NP with kids in MS. I watch these Walls threads every year and I cringe. If this is supposed to the best public HS in DC then honestly, WTF! How is this permitted year after year? Why is there zero accountability? It still wouldn't be an excuse, but some suburban HS have 2-4k students; some scheduling mistakes are to be expected. How is Walls permitted to screw up basic administrative functions year after year?

Because dcps and charters hire barely educated people as administrative staff. Dont believe me? Do some google searching on your staff.

anyone here with a kid who is actually taking geometry and precalculus at the same time (in 9th at walls) or did this in the past? Counselor says it cannot be done (contrary to prior poster who says most BASIS kids who transfer to Walls do this).

I am a Walls teacher. I know for a fact kids have done that in the past few years. I’m not sure why they’re saying no now.

Thanks to the walls teacher who responded - my kid is interested in doing this (and is a very strong math student) - any tips on who talk to talk to (other than the assigned 9th grade counselor who said no without giving any reasons)?

I would have them speak with their current Geometry teacher (or one of the Geometry teachers) and a different counselor. The 9th grade counselor is on maternity leave and the others are taking on extra work so I’d try a different counselor.

If not you could try contacting the 9th grade AP.
