Walls Schedule

I assume the schedule posted in Aspen for incoming 9th graders is not correct at this time?
It has the wrong language and math class for my child.
I don't want to inundate them with emails since I am sure this is a crazy time.
Do 9th graders just get updated schedules on the first day? Or will something else come out this week?

Any veteran parents have any wisdom?

This is Walls.

Just accept it and move on.

NP with kids in MS. I watch these Walls threads every year and I cringe. If this is supposed to the best public HS in DC then honestly, WTF! How is this permitted year after year? Why is there zero accountability? It still wouldn't be an excuse, but some suburban HS have 2-4k students; some scheduling mistakes are to be expected. How is Walls permitted to screw up basic administrative functions year after year?

My 9th grader's math and language classes are correct. I would reach out to get it fixed.

They get new schedules the 1st day.
I would recommend that your student reach out to their counselor now to say that the current schedule did not have the right language / math class. They have office hours the 1st few days to get make adjustments.

Your high school student is the one that needs to make the appointment. You need to get comfortable that they are expected self advocate.

Sorry, what now? So they send them schedules before school and then give them totally new ones on day 1? How does that make any sense? Why do so many parents in DC accept this type of incompetence as the norm.

My kid isn't taking the language placement test until tomorrow, so I certainly hope new schedules are coming!

Aspen has their most accurate up to date schedule. They also print physical copies to hand out the first day so any student who isn’t checking Aspen has one. Changes might happen before then to balance classes, etc. You can email the counselor and she might get to it before Monday or have your child fill out a class change form. It will be explained the first day of school. Mistakes happen but there is also a chance the middle school transcript doesn’t name the math classes the same way as DCPS (this happens at some charters and private schools).

This happens a lot at high schools and it will be sorted the first day or two. It’s actually not something to be worked up about.

PP and to reiterate Aspen always has the most up to date schedule. Check again Sunday night to see if changes were made.

Why does this make you cringe? There is one person who has had two weeks to sort through various transcripts from twenty different schools and place kids. Couple that with I’m sure receiving at least a hundred emails from nervous parents. The counselors don’t work in July so this has only been happening for two weeks.

I was confused by the bolded. Then I read the rest and realized you are a DCPS teacher and of course you think this is ok.
