What location? San Antonio, Evans (GA) or Hawaii? Job offer

Anonymous
Tough choice. I'm from Evans. I would NEVER move back there but a lot of people like it. So many strip malls, so little to do (for high school students especially), so far away from interesting places. But for the sake of my elementary school kid it might be okay. I'd pick Hawaii, even though I think San Antonio sounds like a cool place to live and Hawaii has bad public schools ( the public schools in Evans are pretty good), because Governor Abbot freaks me out.

If not, San Antonio.

The only place that I'd live in Georgia is Atlanta. Anywhere else is way too southern

If OP doesn't mind southern (a plus in my book), Augusta is lovely.

OMG Augusta is not lovely. Georgians call it "Disgusta." The only parts that are lovely are the golf courses (if you're into that) and the parts with really old southern houses. The schools are meh at best (unless you can get into the magnet school) and the roads are mostly big and unsafe and lined with signs for chain stores or giant churches. And the traffic is awful.

Evans is different. It's calmer, nicer-looking (although still lots of strip malls), and the schools are pretty good. But...it's still Georgia.

San Antonio has its own problems. It has immigration problems, poor schools, military base towns, growing crime, lack of English speaking populace, desert soil, tarantulas, etc. We know a family that just moved away from there this year.

Based on the locations OP mentioned, I wouldn't be surprised if her husband is military. So the military base thing might be a plus.

If OP is military, and kids go to military-base school and there is discount shopping on the base, then Hawaii is a go. If not, San Antonio.

The only place I would live in the South is Charleston.

Desert soil??? LMAO

I would say their lack of health care for women is a problem!

I wouldn't listen to the crazy liberals women in these post, they obviously don't work and are nut jobs. Georgia or Texas could be a good option (definitely better than most states especially NY, DC, and CA) if you haven't moved yet. I moved to San Antonio TX from Oahu HI after getting out of the Army. Its good but traffic is horrible due to ongoing construction and drivers are not great. I do training in Augusta GA and lived in Evans and it's such a beautiful, safe, peaceful city. Great for family and it has better schools than 90% of the US. In San Antonio, you have to live up in stone oak or Rogers Ranch to get the good schools 8/10+ so on average it's more expensive if you want to own. If you don't have kids it doesn't matter as much and its much more affordable. Due to the above reasons, my wife, 2 daughters and I, are considering moving to Evans, GA. Another plus for Evans, they were rated best city to live in for families 2 years in a row andits one of the safest cities in America.

Abortion is murder, not healcare. Stop making murder your whole personality, that's why Trump won again.

Women are dying from miscarriages where they wanted their pregnancies but something went wrong and doctors are forced to delay care. Explain how that makes sense.

Have you looked at what kind of house you get in Evans compared to Hawaii? Unless you are a multi millionaire, I would think COL would play a big factor.

Abortion isn’t murder, that’s just your personality. And most Americans don’t agree with your position so not why Trump won.

I've been to two islands in Hawaii, and only Honolulu seemed "cramped."

The Big Island is known for being both vast and unpopulated

Some of us are more than willing to downsize our house to live in paradise instead of hell.

No family in any of them, but have family in Denver. So it would be closest to San Antonio.

We have an elementary school aged child. So factoring that in. My job is remote, but Hawaii time zone would be a big challenge.

Anyone have any advice?

San Antonio go join all the other idiots no power grid. Go join Abbott and Paxton criminal gangs

I would be willing to settle for apartment living and fewer dinners out to live in Hawaii over those other places.

Texas has crazy weather now and Georgia is sooo southern.

Close to Asia too if you like world travel.

Only consideration would be schools. Public schools are pretty hot or miss I think in Hawaii, and college will have to be out of state.

I knew someone who lived in HI for a time. Hated it. She said tourist HI is completely different then living there. She moved back even before her husbands time there was finished.
