What location? San Antonio, Evans (GA) or Hawaii? Job offer

Anonymous
We are looking to move out of the area and my husband has these three choices for job location.

No family in any of them, but have family in Denver. So it would be closest to San Antonio.

We have an elementary school aged child. So factoring that in. My job is remote, but Hawaii time zone would be a big challenge.

Anyone have any advice?

I’d pick San Antonio.

I have a close friend who lives in Hawaii and I don’t think it’s all that when you live there. Island fever is real. The cost of living is astronomical. Traffic is bad.

Augusta, GA just sounds kind of meh. I don’t know much about it.

San Antonio is a legitimate city with vibrant communities. And it’s closest to your family.

Hawaii. There are nonstop flights from Denver.

Next, Augusta.

Next, San Antonio.

If you have a uterus, Hawaii.

If you don’t, Georgia.

Where in Hawai’i? It matters a lot. Honolulu is a real city (although only a veneer of being in the US). The other islands are small. I worked on the Big Island and it feels cramped.

I would rule out Hawaii due to the COL. I also think being on an island would get really old, really fast.

I'd personally get frustrated living in Hawaii as the only way out is via plane. If this is a temporary assignment, I may take the plunge.

If not, San Antonio.

The only place that I'd live in Georgia is Atlanta. Anywhere else is way too southern

Hawaiians are sick of people moving there. I wouldn't do it.

San Antonio is great but the 'good' part is VERY VERY insular. AKA Alamo Heights. As in people our age live in homes their grandparents owned. They all went to AHHS and Camp Longhorn.

I would say Evans, for sure. Looks really pretty.

If you’re ruling out San Antonio because it’s “insular,” you really wouldn’t like Augusta.

I vote for San Antonio.

Hawaii is too isolated and too expensive.

I've never been to Augusta, but it's centrally located between Atlanta, Savannah, Charleston so it's got that going for it I guess.

Hawaii is gorgeous of course. But living somewhere is not the same as vacation, of course. I'd definitely consider it though.

I spent a lot of time in San Antonio when I was younger, and I still really like it. It's a vibrant, small city with its own vibe. I think you can do worse than living in Alamo Heights and sending your kid to Camp Longhorn.

7th largest in the US! But Alamo Heights is lovely, though I prefer Terrell Hills.

Of course there's the weather, what with climate change. But of the choices I'd prefer San Antonio, easily.
