They really do all fit differently, some styles feel better than others even within the same brand, etc. It was worth it.

There's a Japanese brand Tsukihoshi that we get for my son with wide feet and they are really durable. Easy for kids to put on and stay comfortable bc one side of the tongue is attached to the shoe. If you're in DC go to Ramer's in Chevy Chase, but if not I think Nordstrom has them.

Whatever is comfortable that's in your budget. My boy is loyal to under armour becuase they just seem to fit him best, and usually have good sales at the outlet. The girl wears under armour or sketchers - she usually thinks sketchers are cuter. But again, those are the brands at the local outlet, along with Nike which we look at but never seem to have good luck finding a comfortable pair they like.

Nike Court Borough style worked best for my sports loving kid. Its front part is not from mesh material and the toe part is all leather. I find that this lasts much longer than the mesh ones.

We've had good luck with New Balance, Under Armor, and Tsukihoshi. Saucony and Reebok were usually always too narrow for us. Champions (bought with Macy's coupons) were hit or miss. Some styles held up really well, others were garbage.

More recently, we've been buying some Skechers slip ons which seem to be holding up well.

They have a twist closure device so no laces. My daughter loves them and we just buy next size up in different color when she grows out of them.

My 11 son only wants Nike for the past couple years. Before that it was Under Armour. I remember I got him Plae in his younger years, but switched to the sportier brands.

For my younger son (6), he's been wearing Dream Pairs shoes from Amazon for a few years now. He doesn't care about brands (yet), he just wears what I buy. They are cheaper, lots of color option and he likes them.

Tell your 9 your old to get a job and buy her own Nikes. And 9 years is plenty old enough for The Talk: most clothing and shoes are made in sweatshops by children.

The only sneakers that last are the one my kids don't wear. My DS wears the same pair of shoes every day, and we buy a new pair probably every 3-4 months, because they are worn out. I have not found brand matters too much, though Sketchers might wear out slightly faster.

My DD rotates through a few pairs of shoes that she likes, and her shoes last longer. We still rarely get more than 6 months out of a shoe, because their feet grow like crazy. My kids are tall, with feet on the bigger end. Shorter kids, with smaller feet don't seem to have the same "needing a new size every 4-6 months" thing that we have.

Under armour held up the longest for us. But I think it depends on the individual: foot width and shape, what activities they do while wearing them (indoor sports, outdoor sports, playground time, what type of terrain they walk on, etc)

My younger ES kid wears dream pairs (Amazon). Cheap, hold up really well, good reviews for stability and support. She runs around a lot, but all just play.

My older ES DD wears ASICS. She is a runner and does a lot of serious running around all day (athletically, not just play). ASICS get great ratings for women and they are what her running coach recommended. She says they are more comfortable and “cuter” than the Nike and NB she has worn prior. I buy older models on Amazon.

Totally agree that some brands (including the most dominant) do NOT last. We've been really happy with Geox. Last way longer than anything else we have tried.
