I gave my DD a trip to London. I'm not wealthy, but I planned ahead and saved for it and it was 100% worth it to take a special trip together before college started. Would your DD like a weekend away with you at a spa or in NYC or whatever she enjoys doing?
Her dad got her a nice silver ring (I think from David Yurman?). She got plenty of cash from grandparents, aunts & uncles, etc. I don't consider her college laptop, dorm supplies, or college tuition to be graduation gifts, though she did get all of those. |
Nothing at graduation time. But we did tell him that the new laptop we would be getting him a couple months later for college would be his graduation gift. |
+1. That poor kid will not be able to retire now since s/he started their Roth IRA so late in life. At least our kids will have the luxury of a comfortable retirement due to the compounding interest of their teenage earnings started when they were 15/16 compared to *shudder* 18. I weep for some kids. Absolutely weep for them. |
