Good luck with that. $1M is the new $800K. |
| That’s a nice house in a nice area. Good luck! |

OP people on this board are biased toward locations closer to DC like McLean or Langley. They assume everyone wants to be as close to DC as they can afford which just isn’t true. I agree with the suggestion of 22033 zoned for Oakton or Chantilly or 20171 zoned for Oakton. There are lots of Asians in these areas and you and your family will fit right in. As for your budget that would get you a home in a neighborhood like Folkstone which is Crossfield/Carson/Oakton. These are good schools. If your younger kids get into AAP they can stay at Crossfield or go to Navy Elementary which is majority Asian. Carson is the AAP center for middle school so they would go there either way. I’m f you don’t want to push your budget up, don’t. We have a similar HHI and we like that we can pay our mortgage very comfortably and not really worry about expenses. Not everyone wants to stretch to have a big house. You know what works for your family.
Ignore the people arguing about renovations and bashing FCPS. They are miserable people who do this on every thread. I happen to think the 22033/20171 area is a very nice suburban area great for families and convenient to a lot of different things. Most people I know feel the same way. |
OP mentioned Mclean so that's why it was considered. This is an FCPS schools page, not a real estate page. People pay actual money for this type of advice. People have been very helpful including mentioning swim and tennis clubs. A lot of these "bashers" as you call them are the ones actually trying to help keep the system afloat. You can just read the Lewis thread to see that finally after 15 years of people here saying do something about Lewis they are finally considering AP from IB. It's taken years of pressure to do those things which wouldn't have been needed if FCPS wasn't so "progressive". |

This is in Chantlly pyramid and all great schools. |
PP. That is just lovely and a wonderful area. Great price. Good luck to OP. |
| I would look at Woodson area. Your housing budget should get you something and your HHI seems fairly normal to me (it is like 1 GS-15 salary and a spouse with a corporate job). I don't think it is wealthy for this area by any means. |
+1, not in the school zones you named. Also if you don't need to commute I would not try to live close to Tysons (or DC) because you're competing with buyers who do need to be nearby. |
I predict it will get bid up to $1 million or more. |
OP’s budget is at the very low end for Madison pyramid, unless they are willing to go for a tiny 2br. House prices for 3br+ range from $1-3m. |

Op, if you want to get a feel for demographics for the various schools, click on each school's profile here: https://schoolprofiles.fcps.edu/schlprfl/f?p=108:8

What OP really needs to do is see what type of properties within his price range are available on a real estate site like Redfin or Zillow. If he's asking about Oakton, Madison and McLean, he's already got some idea of the demographics and/or school ratings. |

Here is a link to all of the NVSL pools in the area. There are also other leagues. The colonial league. Reston. Country Club League. Maybe some others.

Agree that budget will likely be the deciding factor here. But wanted to point out that Woodson and Chantilly have higher percentages of Asians than these three schools. Marshall has more than Madison but less than Oakton and McLean. |

You have 2 choices if you insist on coming to Fairfax county.
Option 1 is private school Option 2 select a school with low performing kids to have a shoot at getting into TJ - would also check the multi-ethnic box. See recent court decision regarding TJ. |
