Fairfax County office attacked - VA political aide hospitalized

It’s too bad this happened locally. If this had happened to some GOP staffers in Alabama the RWNJ on this site would be beside themselves with glee that they’re the victims of violence again.

But this is in local politics so most people won’t see it.

When the political elite are attacked, suddenly there's concern.

I think this is a failure of our crappy mental health system vs the rise of political violence narrative. It is unfortunate that he went after our congressman’s staff, but I don’t believe political agenda was a reason.

He has schizophrenia - jail isn’t the right place for that. But we have gone too far with Deinstitutionalization for this guy to be in the care of an aging father. Word is the father was trying to get him into a facility.

If he is chasing women with bats while they scream for their lives then he does, in fact, belong in jail.

Descano’s office wouldn’t prosecute this guy for previous assaults on law enforcement, but this offender should get a break from society for chasing neighbors around with bats.

As George Costanza once said, “You know, we are living in a society! We are supposed to act in a civilized way!”

he should have likely been put into a facility after the assault on police. I don’t disagree with that.

But I still don’t think someone with schizophrenia is best dealt with by the penal system.

We do not have enough places for people with mental illness, and sadly they have become the problem of law enforcement and flood our jails.
