"How many APs"?

the list is fairly pointless without them
also if she got C grades in the honors social sciences then that won't help but if she got A's then obviously that's a bonus

This feels like I'm stating the obvious here.

She's a junior, so she has only received 1 AP score so far... it was a 5. She is expecting more 5's this July. She has all As so far except for 1 A- (and might get another A- in AP Lang this year -- she's got a 91.8% right now).

But I'm really just curious about "the number." Would you say 8 APs or 10?

If she could get five 5’s in core subjects, that would help with Oxford and Cambridge.

5 for Cambs, 3 for Oxford + internal test and interview

Both schools have terrible job placement & you’re thrust out into the world at 20 years old

So she took all but one of these Junior year?

OP here. No, she took AP CS as a sophomore (got a 5 on the test). She is taking AP Lang, AP Physics, AP Spanish, AP Calc BC as a current junior (will receive test scores in June). She will take AP Lit, AP Bio, AP Stat, CS Data Structures (post-AP), and MV Calc/LA (post-AP) during her senior year.

Thanks for the varied responses. It seems like most people view her schedule as only 8 AP classes and do not count the post-AP in the "how many" total.

That makes sense. But I still will disagree with the counselor and think she has a shot at getting accepted into UVA and/or VA Tech. She will probably end up with a 4.5 GPA, 1520 SAT, 2 varsity sports (one at a very high level outside of school), etc. So she's is applying even though she "only" has 8 APs from FCPS. Hopefully, it will work out!

Sounds like a very strong transcript to me. Maybe she’ll get in, maybe she won’t. It’s really hard to know these days! But she has as good a shot as any.
