That's the DCUM consensus. There's a world of difference between this and reality.

DCUM may be a toxic cesspool, but it's our toxic cesspool!

It seems like most of the doom and gloom posters don't even live here but post to sew grievance and discontent. They seem to have some political agenda.

Except for those with actual kids attending / recently attended. I believe you do have to live in the catchment area in order for that to happen. So, no, a lot of posters are genuine parents with genuine kids who go to or went to Pyle.

Except for the most of those who work for RNC as astroturfers.

You sound defensive.

As a Pyle parent, the posts ring true. These are actual Pyle parents. These issues are the very same ones we were talking about last week after a child's party when a bunch of us were standing around waiting to pick up.

I wouldn't do this, to be honest. You're introducing an excess of transition when it's not needed. Even when transitions go well, they're a lot of work and mental energy. You're switching to a much bigger school, and you have to figure out where to go, who to ask for things, how past courses line up, etc. Whereas, you know how everything works at your current school. Even if your kid has a seamless switch to Pyle, he'll need to do it all over again in 9th grade. I would finish out the current school with his cohort, even if said cohort isn't great, make a clean break, and then do a full fresh start for high school.

It's been good for us and the families near us. We came into MCPS from a DC private. Pyle is big enough that your kids will find their group, and then change that group a few times if need be. Speaking from having one finished at Pyle, now in Whitman, and one still in Pyle. Mostly very good teachers, one a year doesn't click w our DCs.

Testing week was a nice break for my child because they felt like there were fewer administrators screaming at kids in the halls. It was calmer. (Mainly the 8th grade hallway.) It might be smaller numberswise after covid but it's still not a warm place. It would be hard for your child to transition there for 8th only, I think.

We also experienced this. Normally it was the same Dept from year to year, so Social Sciences or Math.

I don't understand this kind of post. The posters are clearly Pyle parents and other posters have recognized them as such. Your post puts this topic back on top and I don't think that's what you want.

It's clear lots of people post aspirationally rather than knowledgeably on DCUM.

But wouldn’t it be better to transfer in 8th to get used to public school and catch up with math? I understand that public school is way ahead of private in math

Does Pyle have classes all the way through the day or is there a break for recess or physical activity? Or just lunch?

Classes throughout the day, but PE is one of the classes, for three quarters of the year, with the remaining quarter being Health. No recess.

You're incredibly naive if you don't think political operatives aren't here every day stirring the pot and pushing their agenda.
