I think for normal people, having your first after 35/36 is odd. But do know of people having a second or third at 35/36

? "normal" people?

I had my first nearing 35, and then second nearing 38. Easy conception, no issues with getting pregnant. I know several people like me.

Depends on when they married. My best friends mom had her, as her first child, after she was married at age 40 in 1968.

For women with MBAs/JDs/MDs the sweet spot for a first child in the DMV seems to be 32-36. But obviously my sample is limited to my extended friend group. I was 36.

This is what we call an outlier.

Demographic research supports this. At least 5-10 years ago Boston moms were actually the oldest.

This question is not even about fertility or parenting. It's about a relentless voice in your head that demands you compare the minutiae of your circumstances and choices to everyone around you. Have you told it to be quiet and to let you live your life in peace?

Only when I was meditating and doing yoga regularly.

I had 2 kids by 33 (and then a third at 36) and I can attest that I’m the youngest among a lot of mom friends. In fact I’m closest in age to the first time moms with kids the same age as my youngest. I have friends who had babies just fine in their late 30s/early 40s. UMC, close-in neighborhood. This was such a weird question.

Had my first at 31 and seem to be on the young side, here and as compared to my friends in other cities (SE and NE)

I didn’t even have my first until 35.

Good for them. Sounds like they’re learning from older millennials & Gen X’ers that waiting until 35+ usually results in having to pay for expensive fertility treatments & harder postpartum recovery.

Unless they don’t have any of those issues. Which happens pretty often as well.

But it wasn't typical.
