I am so happy with my reusable menstrual disc and I need to share my joy with someone

This is the one aspect of menopause I look forward to -- no more periods. Our grandmothers had it right. It really is The Curse!

Ha! I'm in menopause now and I'd take my periods back (in fairness, they were never that bad) if I could get my hormones and sex drive back. I also kinda wish I'd been able to try the discs -- I loved my Diva Cup, until it stopped working for me as the fit got wonky as apparently my internal shape changed over time.

IF it autodumps when you sit on the toilet what keeps it from autodumping when you're sitting anywhere else?? scary

It's not about sitting down. It's about how your pelvic floor muscles contract when you urinate or have s bowel movement. Of course there is a risk that hcannhsooen by accident. You need to try it out at home for a couple cycles first.

I would definitely worry about this as someone who sometimes leaks since having kids. Especially during exercise. Like what if it released during a yoga or barre class? Ugh, no.

Sticking with tampons. They aren't great, but it's a known quantity that I've figured out how to live with fairly happily.

Yeah the problem is the trial and error process for cups and discs can be lengthy and kind of expensive. So if tampons are working for you, great! They were not working for me.

I like my reusable disc ok. Tried one month, still have work to do.. next period!

I did try the disposable discs for a few times. They worked well immediately. Like, a hugely amazing invention. But I couldn’t remove. Needed dh’s help. Yikes. He was prepared after the first time, but it’s just too much for both of us.

So the reason I like my reusable now is that I bought one with a stem. Problem solved. I’m just getting used to the unknowable/slight differences that don’t make it work as well.

And, this last month, it relieved my cramps while in. But then when I took it out the cramps were TERRIBLE.

I had similar panic first time I used a menstrual cup. But, then I read the instructions, and it recommended squatting or like sitting on the toilet and bearing down and honestly that made a huge difference. Made it so much easier to remove. Any others have a similar experience? Just want to put this in the conversation so people don’t get totally scared away by the removal.

Why use a disposable cup over a tampon?

+1. It feels like some kind of terrible drinking game.

I don’t understand how you can have sex with it in?! I use cups not discs but I’m interested in the disc. Doesn’t your Dh hit your cervix during sex? How is it not in the way? I’m petite so maybe this is the issue?

I’m petite also and a couple of deep thrusts must have knocked the disc loose because there was blood spatter on the white comforter and on him. Mortifying. Before that happened it was great, couldn’t feel the disc and neither could he and no less. But would not take that chance again. The disc fits further up behind the pelvic wall if I remember correctly so it can be out of the way.
