Not a movie, but the series Felicity is a good show for kids to watch before heading off to college.

Ladybird is so good, great recommendation

Another vote for Ladybird. Loved it - and this is reminding me to watch again.

Mean Girls
Devil Wears Prada

Not quite college-themed, but deal with major life themes both directly before and after college.

Good Will Hunting
Wonder Boys
The Sure Thing
And, you either love them or hate them, but Richard Linklater has a lot of coming of age movies centered around the after high school and/or college experience:
Boyhood
Before Sunset
Dazed and Confused

And if Animal House is too hairy, Revenge of the Nerds has to be out too.

Also consider:

Accepted
Flatliners
School Daze
The Paper Chase

I started showing my kids Revenge of the Nerds but had to turn it off. It didn't hold up well. I think a few scenes in Animal House would warrant some discussion, but overall I think they'd enjoy it.
