One more tiny, but helpful item is a car cane. (A contraption that puts an extra handle on the door - gives a really strong support bar for getting in and out of the car.)

I bought one of these a year ago and it’s been deemed unhelpful by my mom. Do you have any usage tips?

Do you know if she's using it properly? It does have to go into a hole in the door frame to ensure it's stable to support weight. Other than that, and ensuring that the door is fully open/or held in place (so it's not swinging while she's leaning on it) there's no trick to it, beyond trusting it to bear weight.

What about installing pull cords in the bathroom-one by the toilet and the in a shower and maybe another above her bed?

Get her to wear an Apple watch all the time. The phone detects if she falls and can call you or 911 if she doesn't push the button or tell it that she's OK. Tell her never to take it off, except when bathing. It's a game changer for my elderly relative. She fell while gardening, and it called her son, who came immediately. She didn't need an ambulance, but if he hadn't been available, it would have called an ambulance for her. I hate many things about Apple and about tech, but this is a huge help for elderly people.
