What does your 13/14 yo do all summer?

Swim team, pool with friends, hikes/museums/other outings with family, some travel, and this year, band camp (rising freshman).

Where? My 15 year old applied to 39 places that I know of last year and only received a few responses. None of those panned out once they found out she was under 16.

-2 weeks sports camp
-2 weeks going to visit grandparents & cousins in SC
-1 week family vacation
-relaxing, swimming, hanging with friends the rest of the time

I'm lucky that my tween isn't yet addicted to screens or tethered to her phone. She still enjoys playing outside with friends and neighborhood kids, reading, and experimenting in the kitchen with new recipes.

The only jobs I know of for 14-15 is grocery store or agriculture. Greenhouses will sometimes hire 14-15 yr olds to help water, prune, carry out potting soil bags, etc. Or farms for things like corn detasseling. I recall friends doing golf caddying pretty young, but not sure on that anymore.

Very cool camps appropriate to age and good resume/application building. One is travel abroad. Family vacations (2), chill time at home and pool. And learning to drive!

Town-run camp, ice cream shop, bakery, mother's helper, etc. My kids have done all of these at 14. The key is finding a retail place that's not a chain. The bagel place said because you have to work with knives and cut fast, they want kids who are 16.

Not to be sexist, but most parents won’t hire teen boys to babysit and most teens boys are entirely not interested anyhow

We hired a male nanny. He's been great. Our kids love the crap out of him.

Adding lifeguard. I inquired at our local YMCA about this. They can start the required training at 14 and start working as lifeguard at 15.

Is he 14? There was a thread on this a while back. General consensus is most won’t hire men/boys for babysitting. Of the minority that would, a 14 yr I’d old would be a hard sell.

Lol, obviously we hired an adult. I'm just putting it out there, that there ARE people who will hire a boy to babysit. We would.

"Travelin' Teens" and the like, see Kids after Hours. A lot of camps have something like this that is a field trip every day
