I totally get parents of younger kids at the school checking or people who might consider switching to the school based on results looking. I honestly just don't understand a random adult's interest.

My kid is at one school and now I'm wondering if we made the right choice.

Every year a different school seems "great." How would you even pretend to know, especially if your child is young?

I'm beyond impressed w/Holton.

I have boys and considering Landon. Landon doesn’t seem as impressive for a non URM athlete.

Holton is SUPER impressive. Wow.

Being a legacy is so impressive

I've seen on other DCUM threads and elsewhere that being a legacy isn't what it used to be at most top schools. The legacy admits must still be pretty impressive! Does anyone know if they really are "worse," just from a basic #s and leadership perspective, than kids at the same schools who didn't get in? I don't mean the mega donor type of legacy either.

Legacies enjoy much higher acceptance rates than applicants in the general pool.

Things change a lot in 4 years. Admissions process will be different in another 4 years. Schools are experimenting now with test optional admissions, for example. In another 4 years, most schools will have a similar practice. The may be mostly doing internal testing, test optional, etc, but I think the process will be more uniformed.

This might be a wildly debated/unpopular view, but I think you need to consider that these instagram accounts show the school the child chose to go to. That is not always the most prestigious one they were accepted to. I went to a highly sought after boarding school, and the school I ended up going to was my choice for a variety of factors that didn't directly relate to placement. I factored in where I got more grants, the city where I wanted to live, and what I planned to study while there.

I would also argue, and this is from the slant of an UM, my time in prep school prepared me more for the workforce than my college degree. I sailed through college compared to my peers, spent a year studying in South Africa and taking a light load (because I'd been able to test out with AP scores), etc. I now have an amazing job and work right alongside people who went to Harvard and Yale with considerably less college debt because of the choices I made. So for me, my decision to send my kids to independent schools was to mirror the early investment my parents made in me. And I would argue, it paid off.

I think the Holy Child link is for a school not in the DMV.

Predictions for two years out? Will things be that much different than today?

The supreme court is expected to make a ruling on affirmative action this year.
