Dk you have a sense of why? |
|
OP I was you and fired from a job in 2020. I found a much much much better fit and culture and have left that other BS behind
Take some time for yourself. You will then bounce back stronger than ever! |
That is unusual |
Wait, so you were told you couldn't do outside work before one year was up, and you did it anyway, and then you got put on a PIP for it? It's petty and bean counting if you were still meeting your work obligations, but it sounds like you flat out broke a rule. |

Sorry OP. I’ve had to fire people before and doing it piecemeal like this sucks. Back when I worked for a larger firm, their HR would try to persuade us execs to make the under performing employees quit, first via PIP then by scaring them into thinking their job is at risk. Literally advised to say stuff like “I’d like to talk on Tuesday at 4 PM and in the meantime organize your folders. The goal is to scare an employee into quitting so they don’t have liability or need to severance you.
If your work wasn’t great (even if it was something you disagree w in the pip like not copying the boss, it’s her right to ask it). So being fired is a part of life and sometimes it’s necessary. But the Machiavellian tactics tells you all you need to know about the company. I always stood up against that crap when I had to fire people. I put people on a pip as needed but I told them most of my people on pips had success stories. And I tried to address issues that might be holding people back. Ultimately when I had to fire it was done on a Tuesday morning when the office was quiet and the person could leave at lunch if they wanted privacy. Never tried to intimidate people into quitting. In future op or others, ask for the option to resign in lieu of firing. Agree to submit a letter of resignation, and ask that the employer agree not to dispute unemployment. Get a small severance. 2 weeks is a minimum and if you’ve been there a long time and are an exec, one month per year of employment is a generous but not uncommon severance. Hope you land on your feet stronger. |
| Nothing to be embarrassed about OP. You said it wasn't a good fit and they apparently felt the same way. You can move on from this, good luck. |

Hey guys. OP here. Just wanted to let you all know I started my new job today! Omg. So much more organized, cohesive, and intentional. A completely different culture than my last job. I really think this will be a much better fit.
Just wanted to thank you all for your kindness three months ago and offer some hope to anyone else who may find themselves in a similar situation. |
| Congratulations! Sounds like a good situation. Best of luck. |
| So glad you landed on your feet, OP. Congratulations! |
| Yay! Congrats! |
| Congratulations! |
| Woo Hoo! So glad to hear. |
| Well done, OP! Hope your instincts about it being a much better place are spot on and that it goes well for you. |
| That's great news op! I am happy for you and thank you for following up. While I have not been fired from a job, I have left ones that were challenging and am much happier now. I'm not making much more money and I have a large work load but my feelings about it are totally different and I have a great relationship with my boss. Finding the right fit is key. |
Glad to hear it! Thanks for reporting back!!! |
