Chad is the father. Clearly. Even I got that one. |
People are desperate to get to Hb because it’s a capped student population. Arlington Tech is just a program within the huge Career Center campus, so you have tech students and hair styling and culinary students and it’s almost as hectic as the full size high schools, just without fields and pool. |
The huge campus? Have you been there? Career Center is now at 900. The new building will allow for 1550 students. That is a lot smaller than any of the other high schools and like HB, the student population will be capped. As it is now. No chance of overcrowding. People will go for it. Lots of people do not care about fields or a pool. Enough people to fill the school and then some. |
NIMBYism at its absolute peak. |
HB has 400 high school students. That is smaller than any elementary school. . |
Small population is not critical to the “program” like HB claims, it will be enlarged in near future. |
I don't think it's the small size that attracts people. I personally think it's smaller than what would be ideal. 100 kids in a class is too small for high school socially. It's the controlled size and the self-selection you get with a lottery. It's why ATS appeals to people. It's bonkers to suggest Arlington Tech will not draw a lot of kids. It is already doing so. |
Well, you can think that if you want to, but if you listen to parents talking about why they want it for their kids, it's the size. Maybe they dress that desire up in talk about independence (sure thing, helicopter parents), but nope. It's the size. A lot of APS' problems are brought on by poor planning, but it get supported by parents who can't cope with anything less than the best (aka what they're familiar with) for their little dumplings. So God forbid that the space on Wilson be built into a 1300-student middle school or that the size of HB be increased to 1300 students in the same space. No way should high school be a ranked choice process, with students on public transportation rather than school buses. How can you suggest that my elementary student be in the same building as an 8th grader? Those kids are monsters, except for my kid's sibling, who's in 8th grade. Also, do you think overcrowded schools are a bigger problem than underused schools? Because the people in my neighborhood who bought the 6000 SF new builds aren't sending their kids to public school. Do you think they care what happens in APS? |
Lol. You are comparing the basically private school option HB to Tech? Not a chance. Why is it so popular? Because it’s never over capacity and isn’t a giant warehouse for teens. Wakefield is at 113% over capacity and headed to 123% over capacity by 2024. But who cares, right? I mean as long as precious W-L is spared. I attached the numbers for people to see themselves. Projections for 29-30, show Wakefield will be at %142 of capacity. https://www.apsva.us/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Capacity-Utilization-2021-to-2023-for-posting-online.pdf |
Give me a break! It is NOT being enlarged. Post your source or admit you are a liar. |
It’s self evident. They just allowed the program to be expanded with the new addition. When HB moved, they were NOT expanded because parents whined the programs small size was crucial to its success. Since Career Center programs have just been expanded, it’s thus proven that is small size is not fundamental to the program, so when other high schools are over crowded, and perhaps some trailers or parking space could increase career center capacity, it will happen. Because they have already expanded it once. |
None of the folks pushing MM wanted to hear about schools. If you asked about schools they called you a racist. Full stop. They have no answers to the schools problem. None. |
Ha, so true. Also, they’ve stated multiple times that there is absolutely no land or space for any additional schools. |
Then take over two office buildings. |
Are some of you completely unaware of the multiple apartment complexes recently built along Columbia pike? |
