I was a waitress and bartender for a long time and people are entitled to order what they want. It all evens out.

Is it fair for one server to get the couple who orders water and splits an entree, and the next server on rotation gets the couple who orders cocktails, apps, wine, and dessert? That's how it goes when you wait tables.

I wonder if OP was trying to eat out solo last week in Phoenix and use an entire table. Everything was booked solid because of the Super Bowl and Waste Management Open and I'm sure the restaurant could not care less about losing the business of a solo customer at that time. When was this OP?

I used to work as a hostess in a restaurant. If the hostess says you must sit at the bar, I would as to speak to the manager. You don't need to give a reason why to either the hostess or the manager, but if the manager also refuses to seat you at a table then this is not a restaurant you want to frequent. I would leave a review on yelp.
