What was DC like in the summer of 2000? I want some nostalgia

The wharf did not exist as a cool place to go

Summer before my senior year of college and I stayed here to intern. Third Edition, Garrett’s in Georgetown. I can’t remember if Smith Point was open at that time. Obsessed with scrolling Late Night Shots. Oh, Union Station movies too!

Gabriel for brunch on P street. Buying chunky shoes at a shoe store near dupont circle. Dean and deluca in Georgetown. Saving up to buy a few cool pieces at Urban Outfitters. Definitely with the low ride bootcut jeans. They didn't stretch much back then, so pulled down when you sat (whale tail). Tubthumping. Garretts. So many douche-bros wearing brown flip flops.

Playing softball on the Mall and then going out for drinks at My Brother's Place or Tiber Creek or The Tune Inn. 10 cent wings on Tuesday nights at the Hawk 'n Dove. Margaritas at Tortilla Coast. (Can you tell I worked on the Hill?)

DD was a threenager and a handful. But in retrospect it was an easier time without social media and ubiquitous cell phones. We didn’t have a Y2K meltdown on Jan. 1 as feared.

Little did we know what was right around the corner with 9/11, the DC snipers, and Hurricane Isabel in the following three falls in a row.

I could walk to Lulu's and the hottest gym was the Sports Club LA that they opened in the Ritz Carlton in Dupont. I used to go see movies at the Uptown and spent many nights in Adams Morgan at Millie & Al's and Club Heaven for 80's night (anyone remember the guy that would stand at the door and yell "Club Heavennnnn"). It was before a lot of really good restaurants had come into the city. If you wanted high end Indian food, you went to Bombay Club. YUmmy Sunday brunch was at Georgia Brown's. We used to play pool at Buffalo Billiard's and hang out at The Front Page. Sigh, so many amazing memories.

Yes Lulus!!! If I dig, I think I could still find one of their cups somewhere. They was my “glassware” for years!

I moved to Dupont Circle in the summer of 2000. Back then there were 3 independent movie theatres around the area within blocks of each other. It was great. Adam's Morgan was the place to be. Used to listen to good live music at the Rumba cafe in AM and Bambule in Friendship Heights.

Lots of memories at Brickskeller.

We got kicked out of there once, I think because 2 drunk guys we were with got into an argument over who was bigger so they both whipped out their junk to compare. OMG. One works at the SEC now.

I disagree. Phillips was DELICIOUS. And Cactus Cantina was fun.

Where was it the Bush twins hung out? I can't remember if it was Smith Point or another preppy place closer into Georgetown.

I was on the A forum on Late Night Shots (and I have NO idea why). I also was on the list at Smith Point where I went a few times with friends. I also have no idea why. I’m not preppy or conservative.

I saw Hank Williams III and the Kings of Leon at the Black Cat (not at the same time).

The 2000s were fun.
