What was DC like in the summer of 2000? I want some nostalgia

Take me back 22 years to a more innocent time.

What were the tunes? What was on the news? What were the cool clubs, bars, and restaurants? What was the hot gossip? What neighborhoods were on the rise? I want to be transported to a simpler time.

I had just moved here and it was very, very hot. Crystal City still had a Hamburger Hamlet. Vidalia and Grillfish were my favorite restaurants. I used to go to a club called “Jet” in DuPont. DuPont Underground (old trolley parts) was closed off, finally.
Mie and Yu was getting ready to open in Georgetown (people used to go to Georgetown).

Dumb TV show “D.C.” with Zack from “Saved by the Bell” started and ended.

Songs: maybe “Real Slim Shady” Eminem?

I had a Nokia “block” phone with a baby antenna.

Wish I could remember more clearly.

Was kind of depressing in many ways honestly.

I remember the 80s better than I remember 2000. I had a 4 and 7 year old. They went to summer camp. I had just started working in Georgetown then - went to Barnes & Noble regularly. I can't remember if Baked & Wired was already open, that might have been a year later. At the time it was int he back of a copy shop.

It was probably hot that summer.

It was a few years later, but remember the Washingtonienne and her blog? 2003 ish?

Well I moved here in summer 2003 - when I graduated college. 20 years ago.

I liked Tom Toms (I think it was $10 for 4 beers and 4 shots on Thursday nights maybe - does anyone recall?), jumbo slice, Heaven and hell, Chief Ike’s, lucky bar, third edition.

Adams Morgan was cool and I didn’t care about other neighborhoods lol.

No it wasn't. It was fantastic and fun. It was the summer I met DH. I do remember it being super hot. Was this the summer of Chandra Levy or was that '01?

Hot summer.
Exploding potholes.
Drinking at the Mad Hatter.
Studying for the bar exam and planning my wedding.

Oops! I meant manholes. Not potholes!

Fewer Jersey barriers.

Adams Morgan was happening.

But the election catalyzed the division in our electorate we still have today.

It was a great time. So much happening in the city and 9/11 hadn’t happened yet so that whole layer i security and fear didn’t exist. Tech bubble was bubbling and about to burst but hadn’t yet so there was a ton of tech people here in addition to law and government. New parts of the city were becoming safe which was so nice. It was a great time to be young in DC. Heaven and Hell, 18th street lounge, etc

+1

Good times.

Blissfully ignorant of ISIS, MAGAs, and pandemics.

I believe that was May 2001 because it happened right before my best friend’s bday

It was a very Destiny’s Child and Matchbox Twenty time. Low rise bootcut jeans, pre-9/11, Dubya.
