I know nothing about Goodman's personal life; maybe he's one of those rare actors who wants to just do great work and keep his life private. More power to him.

Argo won three Oscars including Best Picture. Ben Affleck did that.

I'm the PP you're responding to and I totally agree that it's a great movie. Of the many pandemic movies we watched with our kids (HS and college), that was one of our favorites. My comment re Affleck is simply a recognition that many people seem to think he's a jerk in his personal life. I don't really follow much celebrity "news", so I have no idea if that's true. I wonder, though, why he hasn't made more movies. Is it just that this was the one story he could tell?

Affleck also directed/wrote Gone Baby Gone and The Town.

+1. Also raising Arizona. This stuff really shows his range.

The Conners is a really good show, they don't need her. Why even mention her? John Goodman and the rest of the cast are awesome.

I remember being shocked when the weight went the other way and could hardly believe he was the guy who did the Levi or some other jeans commercial when I was a kid.

No, he simply quit drinking and took better care of himself. For people that drink alcoholically, the transformation is always shocking when they quit. Alcohol is nothing but sugar, empty calories, and poison. Take it away and the body heals very quickly. Losing 30 pounds in two months is totally normal. Ask me how I know.

I loved those commercials PP, pure television gold. There was an added treat of Megan Mulally on the McDonalds Egg McMuffin commercial.

Is it just me or do John Goodman and David Harbor (Stranger Things) give off a similar vibe? Love them both.

Anybody else? Is he a decent guy IRL?

His best was SNL playing the blonde in the Monica Lewinsky saga, don't remember her name.

He was great in the original Roseanne but he should have bowed out on The Conners. A show so bad that it should have been cancelled when Roseanne was forced out. Personally, I thought Barr was/is a bully and disgusting but she made Roseanne!

^^^Linda Tripp. Just remembered.

Roseanne was on of the last great sitcoms. Say what you will about her but she was a comic genius. Goodman and Metcalfe were comedy gold as well. I would rather repeatedly watch Roseanne reruns forever than watch any of the vapid, dumbed down, inane sitcoms that are on now
