Hogan wants to be president, too. How's that going?

I’m not sure how a Republican that repudiated Trump’s Presidential ambition is relevant. He was re-elected by large margins and has extremely large favorability in the state, which means that he’s widely popular with Democrats.

Your post indicates that you are a prime candidate for disappointment.

Hogan will never be president.

The rest of the country has no idea who he is.

And Maga controls the party he is not MAGA.

Hogan is the same as the rest of republicans, he's no better. His kid isn't either.

No republcian should ever be elected again full stop. Treason.

That’s the point. But a “Hogan Democrat” could certainly become President.

Hogan is a Republican who would rather vote uselessly for a dead Republican than vote for a Democrat to beat a MAGA candidate. There's no such thing as a Hogan Democrat. Could a Democrat who voted for Hogan become president? That seems unlikely, purely on a numbers basis.

I wish we talked about this more. A sitting governor voted for a dead person in the presidential election. It's proof that our elections are silly and your vote doesn't count if you're in the minority in your state.

Doug Wilder, Deval Patrick, Wes Moore -- that would be three

Actually it’s four including David Paterson. He wasn’t elected but he did serve as Governor.

Five including PBS Pinchback, who was the first to serve.

A sitting governor TWICE voted for a dead person in a presidential election. TWICE. It's not proof that our elections are silly. It's proof that Hogan's objections to MAGA are cosmetic only.

Who cares? He ran the state well. That was his job. Voting was something he did on his personal time.

Exactly. I’ve got no qualms with Hogan. Did a good job. Strong record on the economy. Promoted a lot of popular policies, like removal of tolls on the Bay Bridge and planning for another span that Marylanders support in huge percentages, but Democrats would never do. He also did a lot to tamp down on Democratic excesses in Annapolis. The combination was a winning formula for the state of Maryland, which is probably why Massachusetts also frequently has Republican governors. I voted for Moore because he was the most pro-business/moderate of the candidates and would be more than willing to vote for a Republican if they were in the mould of a Hogan.

Well serves the Silver Springers right if Moore turns out to be more centrist. They played dirty pool and basically nixed Kelly Schultz’s bid (she was the moderate heir apparent to Hogan). Dems gave bucks to Maga nut Cox ensuring he had a cake walk. First on Moore’s agenda - crush the Blueprint. It will be spun as a give-away to teachers unions. They are clearly boogeymen in any National race.

Hogan is not going to be president, and Moore is not going to be Hogan.

They said the same thing about me

Signed Jimmy Carter.

"They" who? Whoever "they" are, they also said it about a lot of people who, in fact, did not become president.

All of the Democrats I know, who have a favorable impression of Hogan, base their favorable impression on Hogan's (incomplete) rejection of Trump. That's not going to win him any Republican primaries.

Throw in too, the way he handled — and tried to handle — COVID, something also not likely to win him any Republican primaries.

Hogan handled covid fairly well compared to other governors. I'm a life long Democrat but I don't see Hogan as a bad governor.

Agree 100%

There is no such thing as a “Hogan Democrat”? Then who was voting for his landslide reelection victory in a state that is overwhelmingly Democratic? Don’t need Scooby Doo to solve that mystery.

I actually am a Hogan Democrat. Voted for him, and would have done so again. Did vote for Moore this cycle. Moore versus Hogan would present a tough choice. Radical moderate here.

My presumption is that the responses from people who don’t understand the reference of “Hogan Democrat” is because they were not alive in the 80’s.

I would never have been a Reagan Democrat, but unlike Reagan, Hogan is not a right-wing ideologue. In another state like West Virginia, Arizona or Texas, Hogan could possibly be a mainstream, moderate Democrat.

The inauguration might be the first time Oprah was back in Maryland since the 80s.

No, she's been back in MD since the 80s.
