What is the shortest trip you would take to Paris?

You’re so funny! Jet lag. IAD to CDG is about 7 1/2hrs and only a 6 hour TZ difference. Jet lag doesn’t start until you are traveling on a 12+ hr flight. You sound like a European soccer player. Oh my knee, my knee.

On meds?

4 full days, so 6 including travel.

Except it's more like 7+ hours to CDG from.DC, and 8+ back.

Kids - one week

Just adults? I might do something shorter - no shorter than two full days and two travel days and that would be kind of crazy but I might do it.

OP here. Thanks again for all the help. People were disputing each other on jet lag. I did say that we always have a somewhat rough day the day of landing, early dinner, early bed, and we are fine by our first full non-travel day. (I realize people are different). I think we are leaning towards flying to Paris on a Thursday and flying back the following Tuesday.

I'm doing this in April. Flying out Wednesday, returning Monday. I'm also traveling without the kids. And while I also usually have a rough day after landing, I expect it'll feel like such a treat not having to drag my kids and luggage through customs and go do whatever I'd like to the rest of the day.

It's three full days not counting arrival and departure days. If you fill those up, you'll be in good shape. It's Paris. It's worth the trip.

We are mid 40s, decent energy level, and aren’t bothered by coach if we can’t do business class.

Why can’t you do business class? Doesn’t seem worth it otherwise.

At age 31, my boyfriend and I got a great deal and flew from Chicago for a long 4 day weekend. I was young 😀 and in love. Had a great dinner, a couple great walks, a couple sights and that was it really. Enjoyed a lot of meals I will always treasure. Paris for me is always a feeling. We went in Spring and it was the best. But this is almost 20 years ago. For me, it's about the crux of a place. In Greece I would want to stay near water, in Italy, do a lot of history or totally relax over many weeks. In Costa Rica Im gonna adventure as much as possible but in Paris, I just want to sit in a cafe and people watch. It's just a mood to experience. In this case, a very short trip is enough.

Before we had kids, my then boyfriend and I took advantage of cheap flights to do a long weekend in Paris. I think we left Thursday night and came back Monday.

3 full nights, we did this back in 2019.

I’d do it for 3 full days - obviously more time in Paris would be lovely, but a few days at a time is still nice.

I went to Norway over the 4th of July weekend last year (left Thursday night, arrived Friday morning, and departed Tuesday afternoon). It was my first time there and we managed to fit in two cities and a 6-hour train ride without feeling miserably rushed. And the jet lag wasn’t bad at all. It was totally worth it.

I did a long weekend to London a few years ago -- I think I flew Wednesday night and returned Monday morning, so three and a half days, basically. But chiming in to say that I took the first flight of the morning and I was in the office (near Tyson's) by 10:00 or 10:30 am eastern. That day at work was kind of tough, but let me have a full Sunday in London. If flight schedules from Paris permit, you might try that.

DCUM: where unless it’s business/first class for at least a month, going to Europe isn’t even worth it
