Please help me not hate my dog!!!!

We have a rescue dog and crating wasn't a great solution for her either. However, she is not a chewer or generally destructive. We do sort of shrink her area if we leave the house and don't crate her. We shut all the upstairs doors so basically she has no reason to go up there because the only place is the landing, which isn't very interesting to her.
