| Why would anyone think it is a good idea to open voting to foreign nationals? |
Presumably because they live here and make their home here and have an interest in garbage pick-up, parks, etc., just like anybody else. |
| If 16 year olds are not cognizant enough to vote, then why are 90 year olds allowed to vote? |
This would be so easy to abuse. What a foolish idea |
I support a voting age of 16 in local elections, but I don't support writing off old people to make your point. |
Do you live in the City of Rockville? Then express your opinion to the Rockville City Council. If you don't live in the City of Rockville, you're welcome to your opinion, of course, but it's not relevant. |
“Vaping” is for the less intelligent. |
Agreed. It makes no sense. |
People too young to legally contract shouldn't be allowed to vote. We release them from liability for criminal behavior, because their frontal lobes are not yet fully developed, and yet we think they are rational enough to vote? |
So the ones who are paying income taxes should be allowed to vote? What about citizens that are not paying taxes? Should they not be allowed to vote? If you reside in a community, whether you are 16, 90, undocumented, or a citizen, you have “skin in the game” when it comes to decisions made by local elected officials. |
| Well, there goes all the research about brain development, cognitive ability and decision making for people under 25. I thought kids making bad choices in criminal cases might be spared adult sentences. Apparently the science is all wrong. |

I always thought that anyone under 18 was classified as a legal minor and could not be held to a contract.
Sixteen year olds generally live with and are financially dependent on a guardian. Allowing somebody who is not independent to vote seems like we’re opening possibilities of coercion. There has to be a line somewhere, and it’s never going to be right for everyone. I think as a society we should decide at what age most kids are mature enough to be treated as an adult, and then treat them as a full adult. Voting at 16; letting them sign contracts, go to war, carry a gun, but not letting them drink until 21 is ridiculous. Either you’re an adult who has all the responsibilities and privileges of an adult, or you’re still maturing and you need to be protected because society doesn’t trust you to behave responsibly. If an individual isn’t deemed responsible enough to make their own decisions, why are we proposing that they should be making decisions for the society at large. |
What does documents have to do with anything? You generally have to provide documents to vote. |
Skin in the game...ha...are the undocumented boys resigtering for the fraction at 18? Didn't think so. They have no skin in the game. |
| ...for the draft... |
