Do you care to have a tub in your master bathroom?

Anonymous
I am an earlier poster who has a large woalknin shower with multiple heads. Kids bathrooms have tubs, for bathing them when younger.

Out of curiosity, who are all you people who like to soak? Doesnt the water get gross and your skin get all wrinkled and then dried out? And how long do you sit in it? It doesn't it get cold?

Hi PP. I love a good soak in a tub. I add moisturizing bath oils to keep my skin looking good. At my age, I shouldn't have such great skin, especially since I aspired to a deep tan as a teenager and tried like hell. But I have great skin. It also helps with achy joints and when you strain muscles. Plus it's relaxing and delightful. That's my answer.

I only use tub, couldn't live without it. I have a tub that is nice, attached to the wall with window and not one of those self standing "vessel tubs" that you can't put on anything on the side.

How long do you stay in the bath? Do you prop up your ipad nearby to watch something, or just think your thoughts?

I'm one of the tub-required people. I have kids; that's *why* I'm a tub-required person. Hour-long soaks after my kids go to bed (usually only on weekends because my 3yo doesn't go to bed until late when she naps at daycare) is basically my only version of self-care. Yes, my skin gets wrinkly (although never dry; not sure why baths would cause that) and eventually the water gets cold, at which point I either get out to refresh with hot water. The time to unwind and keep myself off screens is so deeply worth it nonetheless. The baths aren't for washing (I shower regularly too) so I don't worry about the water getting gross.

And to the person wonder what I do -- I read books. Pretty much the only time I get to read these days and I like using a real book.

Nope. We got rid of ours in favor of a big beautiful shower. No regrets. Maaaaaybe once a year I think a bath wod be nice but it's a passing thought.

I keep plastic storage crates in my giant master bathroom tub. Nobody in my house takes baths, only showers. People say they want one "for the kids" but most kids are showering by 8 if not earlier.

I know intellectually all these adult bathtub lovers exist, but I think it's so odd to regularly sit in a bathtub. Meanwhile people will go on about how gross a hot tub is. I love a hot tub because, unlike a bathtub, it's big and it stays warm.

I wish I did, but the downstairs bathroom has a tub, so if I want to take a bath I just use that, no biggie.

Much more important that the kid’s bathroom has a tub IMHO.

We use our jetted tub in the master bath as a laundry pit. I prefer showers. We changer the hall bath from a tiny tub with shower overhead into a larger glass shower. My kids love it. I think one tub is fine.

If i could afford it, i might change the tub we have to something more sleek and modern. It’s kind of a beigiesh fiberglass monstrosity.

Me too.

I light candles, put on a sheet mask, and chill with a book

I feel like the only person who doesn't understand the appeal of the separate shower and tub. I do sometimes want to soak in a bubble bath, but that sounds uncomfortably chilly if I'm not ensconced behind shower doors or a curtain. Just lounging out in the middle of the bathroom -- brrrr, no thanks! And there are so many times when I'm showering and decide, "I'm gonna sit down and let the water beat down on me." Thays a lot more comfortable in my tub/shower because I can recline. Or even just sitting briefly to shave my legs more comfortably than bending over. The tub/shower combo seems like this magical concept that we are now regressing on.

I struggled with this question when we built a couple of years ago. We had 2 tubs in guest baths and knew that neither my husband or I would ever use a tub in the master. It seemed so silly to add a tub for “resale”. Ultimately we put in the plumbing rough in for a tub in the master (difficult to add the rough in later) but didn’t install a tub. When we sell eventually we will specify that the rough in exists. It’s been a couple of years now and I am happy with our decision. We never miss the tub.
