Do private schools take kids with ADHD

Anonymous
My ADHD kid is a at private school, where he will graduate this year. When we applied to the high school, we shared the testing and we were up front about his diagnosis - ADHD. We actually wanted to know if the school could accommodate him - no point in moving him from public if the school wasn't going to help. It's been pretty good and he is graduating with good grades and will go to college.

I strongly encourage you talking to your kid about their diagnosis and getting to a point where you and the kid are ok with it. I'm not saying you need to shout from the rooftops, but my DS does not hide is diagnosis -his friends, teachers and coaches all know and he will likely apply for accommodations in college - the ones that he used in high school.

I know there is still a mental health stigma and I know it's also probably still easier for kids with ADHD than other diagnoses, but I still wouldn't shy away from the truth.

Also, if your kid doesn't own the diagnosis - how will they ask for help and remember their medication?

OP - not sure how old your kid is - if younger, then some of this doesn't apply, but you should work towards ownership as your kid gets older.
