Is "trolling the libs", now, the only consistent party platform of GOP

Lest we forget the “fullness” of their platform …

Great list and might add
- reversing student loan forgiveness
- bussing illegal immigrants from Republican to democratic led states
- keeping as many military grade guns/ rifles in the hands of civilians as possible
- defunding schools
- banning books that detail historic reasons for existence of wide spread racism in US
- blathering in about state rights unless states are taking lead in combatting climate change, managing illegal immigration in humane ways, and protecting women’s human rights and then they want federal bills that support their positions.

Just like William Barr and the federalists defend the theory of executive privilege to absurd lengths - unless Democrats are sitting in the White House and then they do whatever necessary to denigrate their presidential authority …

All of them damn well better be!!!!

I’m a 2-issue voter, to the exclusion of everything.

First, I want total unrestricted access to reproductive healthcare, with no exceptions, no time limits, and no other BS. If a person in active labor decides at the last few seconds that they’d rather have a termination instead, they should be able to, no questions asked. Period.

Second, I want every single gun in this country banned and seized, even if that means searching private homes/cars/property/person, and throwing millions of holdouts and recalcitrants in prison, or shooting the ones who balk or resist. If the police are unwilling to do this, fire them and hire new ones. If the new ones won’t do it, use the army. If the army won’t do it, use UN peacekeepers. I don’t care who does it, or how. I just want guns and anyone who owns one, GONE.

Any Democrat that doesn’t support both doesn’t get my support. But anyone who primaries them will.

Interesting and ironic juxtaposition. You don’t want guns to kill people, yet you fully support late term abortion.

I like the moral gymnastics. 10/10.

The PP you are quoting does not speak for 99.9% of democrats.

Over the last five years, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has learned one lesson better than any other national Republican: If you want to go far in the Republican Party, you should emulate Donald Trump in every way possible. He’s pulled out all the stops: His home has been converted into an ersatz shrine to the former president; he’s directed his infant children to “build the wall” out of cardboard bricks and say, “Make America Great Again” in a campaign ad. He has even started talking with a quasi-Trumpian cadence and standing in that weird way where his arms are held awkwardly away from the body—a posture that makes him look a bit like an out-of-shape action figure.

But one of DeSantis’s achievements in his study of the Trumpian arts stands out above the rest. The Florida governor has, perhaps better than anyone in the contemporary GOP, mastered Trump’s main innovation: shitposting as policymaking. He has wrangled with Disney, one of his state’s most important employers, over made-up culture-war beefs about inclusivity and “wokeness.” On Thursday, he arguably took things further than ever, by flying dozens of asylum-seeking migrants to Martha’s Vineyard.

There is no actual point to DeSantis’s actions beyond weaponizing his own petulance—and the fervent hope that somewhere, even if it’s just online, some libs will be triggered. It’s a policy that accomplishes nothing beyond doing a grave indecency to some needful human beings for the sake of a live-action troll job.

And it was a classic Trump move: pointless, cruel, designed only to provoke. Trump’s border wall—still his signature policy—remains the quintessential policy position of the contemporary Republican Party. It is, first and foremost, a troll. It does little, if nothing, to reduce undocumented immigration. It is a metaphor more than a policy, flaunting what purports to be the simple solution to an incredibly complex issue.

Why is US in this precarious point where one major party out of two has given up governance and resorted to "trolling the libs" as its only policy? Where do we go from here. Is US going to die as a country from here onward? Will we be Germany of the past or USSR?

It would have blown up in his face if they had welcomed and housed these people instead of freaking out, declaring an emergency and getting rid of them as soon as they could, like yesterday’s trash.

That would have sent a message and made DeSantis look foolish.

They welcomed the people, fed them and got them to a place where they can actually be helped, rather than a sparsely populated resort island. The only people freaking out are on right wing media. Everyone else has moved on.

Let’s add:

Defund the IRS, FBI and any law enforcement that tries to uphold the law against Republicans.
Eliminate any regulation related to pollution or safety or workplace or financial protections in the name of company profitability, wait for it to blow up and blame democrats when it does.
Implement regressive tax systems that are designed to starve public resources and cut the social safety net.
Appoint ideological and often incompetent and unqualified justices so long as they are conservatives.
Intimidate and restrict voting rights against minorities where possible.
Punch down against disadvantaged groups by stoking culture wars.
Gaslight, obstruct, and project when they’re not in power.

The Republican Party's platform is one of:

- smaller government
- lower taxes allowing hard working tax payers to keep more of their money
- strong energy policy that uses a VARIETY of energy sources and doesn't rely on green energy
- following the Constitution and not working to eliminate the electoral college or stack the Supreme Court like the Democrats are working to do
- parents involvement in education and that funding goes with the student
- strengthening law enforcement and not defund it like the Democrats want to do
- having a strong defense with the emphasis in the military being on preparedness and not on equity or gender identity or CRT
- and, of course, a secure border. Biden doesn't know the meaning of the word.

There are other items as well. Glad you asked!!!

You don’t remember that the GOP declined to set forth a platform in 2020? You people have the memory of goldfish. Also spending $12 million to fly 50 legal asylum seekers is not lowering taxes or following the Constitution. We shall see how that shakes out.

YOU need to question where you are getting your info. The asylum seekers have stayed in Barnstable County. They are at a joint base on mainland Cape Cod. MV has a winter population of 2k people and a winter unemployment rate nearing 28%. The prank DeSantis pulled was meant for Obama, who has a summer house there. Between that and Abbott dumping two bus loads of migrants in front of Vice President Harris’ quarters shows what racists they both are. How about sending them to Iowa? Devin Nunes’ parents need some farm help. We do have farm worker shortages in the Midwest.

Not sure where information on population and unemployment is coming from. Year round population in 17,000 according to the MVs website.

Sadly, a comprehensive list …

OP - I think you are sort of right - although Republicans have a wider platform than trolling libs, they spend a lot of time demonizing their opponents. Plus their concerns appear to comprise ideological drama around contestable concepts of what freedom entails and xenophobic reactions to immigration issues and changing racial demographics rather than pragmatic problem solving of major problems

The only game plan I’ve seen from the Republican Party is “vote for us or things will get worse.” There is no plan. The only groups they make campaign promises to are the ones who don’t vote for them.

You can't "win" by only playing defense, but to quote the GOP "It's not who we are."

In addition, instead of figuring out the undocumented immigrant problem, the GOP has promised their first order of business, if reelected, is starting "probes / investigations" against the Democrats.
