American Legion Bridge

I have no idea why traffic doesn't move at speed across the bridge. There isn't a reduction in the number of lanes, so why is this?

The right lanes have to deal with merging traffic. Inner Loop has merging traffic from the GW Parkway. Outer Loop has merging traffic from the Clara Barton Parkway. The incline on both sides slows down larger vehicles in all lanes, especially on the Inner Loop heading into Maryland.

I doubt there are many people trying to look down at the river. The bridge is relatively nondescript and it's a quick ride over -- even in slow traffic.

Three reasons: 1. Fear, 2. Chicken necking for views, 3. It’s uphill after the bridge and people typically slow down going up hills.

Going SW into Virginia its usually the sun in the afternoon/early evening
