+1. It used to be a school that people applied to for amazing merit packages. That is no more. I also agree that if you are applying for non-engineering and CS it is likely a safety for most kids. |
I think now it's a relatively close, relatively inexpensive OOS option for kids who want a urban school. And it has rolling admissions. So it gives you either an acceptance or a reality check pretty quick in the application process. |
| Is merit offered at the time of admission? |
According to the data given by the counselors at our FCPS high school (Madison), 53 of the 68 students in last year's graduating class who applied to Pitt were accepted. However, only two chose to enroll there. |
What fee waiver? |
Different poster, but when we toured Pitt, DD was given a coupon to use when she applied that waived the application fee. She also got a really nice t-shirt so we didn’t have to hit the campus store afterwards. Best admissions swag so far. |
From what others have said, sounds like merit offer would come a couple of weeks after acceptance. |
| Correct (parent of a very happy, current Pitt student). Our child's merit aid came by snail mail about 3 weeks after their acceptance. |
| Why don’t more schools do rolling, fast turn-around, merit-heavy admissions ala Pitt? It seems to have been a winning combo for the school and is helpful to students as well. |
