Pitt acceptance rate below 50%

He was housed in a hotel, which he ended up liking more because he got free cleaning each week and a private bath. However, there were no dining options. I think my BIL said the university gave those in the hotel a special dining stipend for door dash and Uber eats but it didn’t go far because the fees are so high.

They bused them to campus but the bus was never on time either. He almost missed a big exam when the bus couldn’t make it in some snow and got stuck. Big downside there.

He also had several classes where if you didn’t get there 15-20 mins early, there was no seat. Classes were over-registered. Students paid all that money to take exams on the floor. Crazy.

Give it a few years and the boom will be over. [/b]There are other great safety schools on the Pitt level.

Such as?

NP. Good question. Urban research university with a manageable acceptance rate...Ohio State, Minnesota, Temple and Illinois-Chicago (although I think it's a commuter school). Think NC State is pretty selective OOS w/ limited merit.

Temple is a commuter school in an unsafe neighborhood (not just a bad neighborhood, literally unsafe)

Does your kid go there or something? Trying to justify your choice?

LOL - they want their friends to know her kid is not as "average" as they thought. Nothing to brag about.

Many don’t want to deal with Minnesota weather, Columbus is half the size of Pittsburgh and doesn’t feel like a big city, and Illinois-Chicago is a commuter school. I don’t have any association with Pitt, but I can see why it checks a lot of boxes. There aren’t that many universities in cities that are in safe areas (even setting aside the ease of admission factor).

PP, I was just throwing darts. Although I think you may be underestimating the population of Columbus. I can't speak to "feel".

Anyone's DC submitted their Pitt app for entry Fall 2023? DS seems to be dragging his feet. I realize it's still a little early, but a little merit is a must.

Pitt has obviously worked hard to gain name recognition. Great marketing. Same with Northeastern. Both have transformed how people view their schools.

Pitt definitely has an ideal location for the kid who wants to be in a city that doesn’t feel cramped (like NYC).

PS: I think you have to consider acceptance rates for individual colleges. At some other universities, one college may have a 10% acceptance rate while the overall reported average is 60%.

That number by itself without other data points doesn’t mean much.

DC already submitted so I’ll be interested in the timing/result. Visited this summer and really liked it.

PP w/ the foot dragger...toured this summer also. Couldn't believe how organized they were. Best of luck!

To your DC, too! Ps I think I have a speed (possibly through important details) racer, so your foot dragger is just being more careful

We really liked Pitt this summer too - pleasantly surprised. DC put the application in about a week ago, but not expecting to hear anything until September some time. Good luck!

Pitt is a great school! In a fun area.

DS applied mid Aug and was accepted in three weeks. We haven’t visited it yet. What is Pitt like? DS doesn’t want a “small” school, but we don’t want him at a huge school. What is the social life like there?

Pitt has a lot of great attributes. But I think a kid really must want an urban school to really like Pitt. One of my kids loved it at first sight and the other didn’t want to get out of the car.
