In search of "old J Crew"

It's interesting I was just reading on corporette in the last couple days (the blog for "high achieving chicks") that several posters were happy to have returned to j crew factory. I am assuming you have tried them recently but I find the feedback there to usually be on target.

Apparently I'm alone, but I like the **current** J Crew. I just got some cashmere sweaters and a pair of straight black trousers there that I'm very happy with.

I like Madewell, Mango, and I LOVE the pima cotton tops from Everlane, but otherwise the cut of Everlane's tops is too boxy for me.

When on sale, I like Vince, Theory, and Frame.

Jeans I like Madewell, Citizens of Humanity, and Mother.

I often get work dresses from Boden (their petite cut works wonderfully for me) -- for my particular workplace, a higher price point doesn't make sense.

I love shopping at Evereve as well, but not really for basics.

I like their straight black trousers too! I just wore a pair of them last night for a dinner and they're perfect for fall.

Madewell for jeans
Everlane, but imo you really have to try things on
Boden is always good for classic work pieces
Athlete for versatile pieces (especially great for work travel)


Honestly I still buy a lot of "old J.Crew" on Poshmark for cheap. I just got a bundle of 8 new with tags sweaters for $125 with free shipping.

+1 I have bought some great “old” Jcrew pieces on Poshmark. It’s my go to when I can’t find what I am looking for online or in stores.

Talbots has good quality basics if you can overlook the loud factor.

The decline in quality overall has been slow but steady. I wear a lot of tee shirts and I noticed that some of them are 10 years old all cotton. The only ones that you can buy today like that are LLBean. Then you have the frumpy look. At least it’s not poly.
