Over 50 woman here. My body does seem less tolerant of carbs now than it was 20 years ago. When I was younger I was thin on a carb heavy diet. I can’t eat that way now. |
There are a lot of posters saying they don’t eat fruit. |
Kick started my diet reset with keto - under 25g of carbs for about 1 month and then slowly increased to under 50g for a couple of months….track everything and sure maybe carbs went over 50 once in a while but no higher than 75-80g. I don’t eat oatmeal, bread, pasta, potatoes - sweet or regular, sugar, honey, bananas, rice, quinoa, cereal, baked goods, crackers, pretzels, and limited very sweet fruits like mango and pineapple. I do eat lots of fresh organic vegetables, clean meats, fish, yogurt, cheese, nut butter and nuts. I also stopped drinking dairy skim milk and use almond/coconut creamer in my coffee. I feel much better, have lost 21 pounds and have tons of energy. This is totally sustainable- I don’t have cravings. Hope this helps… |
PP here….I also eat fresh fruits: berries, peaches, watermelon, apples for breakfast every day with Greek yogurt. Also snack on fresh fruits but always with nuts or nut butter. |

I think a lot of people also do low carb and not really keto. I don’t track macros and can’t get enough fat unless I’m eating nut butter or something with mayo which isn’t everyday. I use olive oil or sesame oil and don’t really like butter. Low carb works for me. |
It is really easy to get enough fat, honestly, even if you don't specifically set out to eat high fat. I mean, look up how much fat salmon has in it. Half a fillet: 412 calories Fat: 27 grams Sat fat: 6 grams carbs: zero fiber: zero Proten 40 grams. So already, you've had 27 grams of fat today (243 calories) and 40 grams of protein (160 calories). Chicken is less fat Chicken, one breast (140 grams ... I'm just using google here) Calories: 231 Fat: 5 g sat fat 1.4 g protein: 43 g An avocado (146 grams) Calories:234 Fat: 21 grams carbs: 12 g fiber: 10 grams protein 2.9 grams I'm doing low carb and not adding any special fats to my diet. Yesterday: 19% carb 54% fat 27% protein Tuesday: 18% carbs 37% fat 45% protein Monday 18% carbs 51% fat 31% protein Sunday 30% carbs 50% fat 20% protein. I'm just eating regular food, except avoiding grains and excess fruit. |

I am eating boiler potatoes and carrots with a tiny bit of beef, and strawberries for lunch, right now. I am losing weight on it.
On high protein, low carb for the month before, I lost nothing but arthritis in my finger joints was back. |
