For me the most important thing is the fabric - nothing polyester or anything that would make you sweat, so I personally would stick to natural fabrics like linen, cotton or silk (although silk might be too fussy for the beach). Fair warning, that while I consider my taste to be "timeless and classic", my teenagers call it "boring", so with that caveat here are some ideas that I liked:

all gorgeous but a little too young and trendy for me, prefer a more classic look

OP here thanks to everyone for so many good suggestions!

I actually ordered four (so far) and am still looking. Many good suggestions.

Def not doing Old Navy or Loft, this is a "hoity toity" affair and my husband wants me to but nice clothes as he will be seeing many of his law colleagues, etc....so its not as casual as an old navy dress. Not being snotty but just stating the facts. One dress at Anthropologe and one at Tuckernuck. i loved some at Sue Sartor but they seem to have a lot of fabric, and I want something light and airy.

My search continues, btw if anyone ever needs such a look found 2 great tunic dresses at Gretchen Scott and a few cute tops.

In your OP you said these were DH's "medical colleagues"....I'm beginning to think a lot of threads are just people's fantasy lives (and when I originally read this I could never imagine someone telling other people how to dress for a 3-day wedding)

Got 2 of them in, and I was surprised how especially one of them looked. Really flattering and super comfortable. The other one I also like needs hemming. I ordered a Tory Burch and Gretchen Scott waiting on those two.

That is not the same.. A law colleague implies he is a lawyer, not that he he went to law school.

Good try though.
