How do you bypass a dealership and order from the factory?

Use the manufacturer's online tool to build your car. It shows the base MSRP and you can add additional options if you like.
You order and pick the dealership where you want your car to be shipped.

Can you really do this?

You can only really do this with Tesla. The other manufacturer websites let you "build" and price the car, but you can't order it. There are a few exceptions, like the BMW European Delivery Experience where you go get your custom BMW in Germany and drive it around in Europe.

Search on AutoTrader. Filter by year and features you want, including third row. Widen the search to 100+ miles. A quick glance looks to me like some 3-row Highlanders are available for MSRP if you go out to Charlottesville, Bowie, Westminster, etc.

Try some of the Fitzgerald dealerships.

BMW canceled ED several years ago.

Damn you people agreeing to pay over MSRP!!

Dealers are gonna sell cars for what they can get. If we as buyers stand our ground and not agree to pay “market adjustment” pricing, these exorbitant prices and dealer markups will go the way of the Ford Pinto.
