There are these things called science and history and art and geography and music that get really shortchanged in schools. How about planning a fun interdisciplinary project to enrich your kids? WHY would you and your district not plan to fully utilize the days on the calendar? |
It's a month of prolonged winding down because the "adults" fail to plan and make good use of the time. Not because of the calendar or because 180 days is too much. |
Because having to show that you learned something is terrible! |
This is what you wrote before: "next week just feels like checking a box to say we had 180 days of school. Really stupid to be going back." Sure sounds like you're planning nothing more enriching them if they had vacation days. |
Because if you were actually in a classroom, you would see the kids are just completely done. They checked out a couple weeks ago and it has been painful trying to drag them through the last couple of weeks of school. I’m teaching real kids - not just eager, empty vessels who are thrilled to soak up information. I wish some of you could spend a week at your kids school and realize how challenging teaching has been this year. |

Mine too I have no idea what these people are talking about. |
m Are you saying they have assignments to complete right until the last day? Your kids probably have assignments that are overdue. No one is requiring assignments after Tuesday |
| Which schools are not really holding classes? Can you be specific or is this just more anti-MCPS fiction? |
Mine have tests all week and a couple of projects to do as well. We're @MCPS which by law has 180 days of school. |
This is obviously just another troll finding another issue to harp on. If you haven't noticed, they start a couple of these threads each week. I'd expect a new one on the board, McKnight, the collapse of western civ within 72 hours. |

No - MCPS does not have high school finals any more. |
| The last week of school was always my favorite! Year book signing, teachers more relaxed, movies. |
I very much doubt it is a troll. At my school we still have regular class periods but most teachers were done teaching in the middle of last week. The main reasons are that kids are hyper focused on summer break and not easy to teach right now. Also, many teachers are burned out. It has been a tough year. |
