I don't think the Mayor's office will go entertain Goulet's proposal. Looks like a high school at MacArthur will be built -- the question is when. |
|
This means we have nothing to look forward to for HS so we are out.
|
There was no money in Bowser's budget for that, what with financing Audi Field for her friends and all. |
Huh? Did you want the high school on MacArthur Blvd. to start up on Aug 23 or not? I don't think DCPS is budging from this -- the only question is whether it is in 23 or 24. |
I look further ahead than you do apparently. And why do you keep starting your posts with “huh?”? |
So what happens now? I don't think the Mayor will veto the budget for this one issue. Or perhaps someone might offer an amendment at a later date, putting the funds back in? Goulet's proposals are just proposals - the schools are planned and the funding is in the budget at least as of now for FY24. |
I had heard friendship heights - like the old lord and Taylor building. Am I mistaken that is an option? |
I am in Ward 4 and will send my kids to Wells. We need a critical mass of high-performing kids in Ward 4 & 5 schools for greater buy-in city-wide - which would relieve crowding at Deal/Wilson. The quickest way to do that is redraw boundaries and route more schools to Ward 4 and also use existing magnets like Bard as bus-in options. |
So would you blow up the J-R feeder system? Because the logical thing would be to split the feeders for J-R, and have Deal feed one high school and Hardy another. J-R is geographically within the boundaries of Deal, so what makes sense is have Deal feed J-R, and Hardy feed the new high school. That means the new school needs to be within the Hardy boundaries. So it's not really a search for a high school somewhere in Ward 2 or 3, it's a more focused search for a site somewhere within the existing Hardy boundaries. Now the logical spot would be along the major transportation hub of the area, Wisconsin Ave. If rec centers can be considered, an obvious choice would be Jelleff. Oops, that's been leased to Maret for ten years. Or Guy Mason. Oops, that's leased to Georgetown. Maybe there are other city-owned sites inside the Hardy boundaries that I'm missing. But the likelihood of the city assembling a large parcel via purchase or even eminent domain is remote. |
Yep. Damn the Council. |
I agree the odds of the city planning appropriately are low so this is all moot. Within the immediate vicinity of Hardy, there's that new building going in behind the British school that's being built with a school in mind. And there's the church across from Trader Joe's that is hurting for parishioners. |
I think Lord & Taylor would only work, logistically, as a 9th grade academy within the existing boundary-feeder pattern. But Mr. NIMBY said he was looking for a location in southern Ward 3 or Ward 2, so he doesn’t have Lord & Taylor in mind. |
Another vote for Erin here. |
Which parents do you consider stupid, stupid? Do you understand their concerns? If not, you are sitting in a glass house my friend. |
| DC government should build onto Wilson or rather Jackson-Reed, perhaps over the recreation center. Stoddert should be expanded. |
