This. And it was so predictable.

Closing schools has to be one of the worst public policy decisions of my lifetime. Such a massive and colossally stupid waste.

+1. Please make sure you don't vote for Robert White for mayor, who was the king of keeping schools closed.

THIS! Robert White is endorsed by the union that shall not be named, and he strongly advocated to keep schools closed. He pitched a fit when schools finally reopened and even tried to fight reopening after school personnel received vaccines. He and Janeese Lewis George recently proposed legislation to require schools to close if community covid levels reach a very low rate. That's not even an appropriate metric, and he and JLG proposed this even after vaccines were widely available to anyone who wanted them. Now he's trying to eliminate testing so there's no data to show how well kids are learning/how effective teachers are.

Robert White is bad news for public school children and families.

I can’t find that proposed legislation. Can you link to it?

This is ridiculous. It enabled many people to avoid Covid until they could get vaccinated. And there are now some treatments available, although those aren’t as widespread as we need them to be. Closing schools absolutely saved lives. There’s a very big difference between getting Covid from your kid when you’re vaccinated versus when you’re not vaccinated.

If it did, the effect was marginal and didn't justify the tremendous harms done. School closures and their consequences will affect the quality of life and life expectancies of many millions of kids (not talking about your privileged ones). The life years lost will be staggering compared to the life years potentially saved. History will judge this decision very harshly.

This is the problem will all of the lockdown measures. People are too myopic to consider the ripple effects.

My family hasn't gotten it. And we keep masking to avoid getting it.

We cannot wait to vote out Janeese Lewis George over that horrible proposal. Ward 4 can do so much better.

So 100% of the spawn of the MAGA states all had it. Maybe 50% of the kids in sane states. I guess that could put us around 75%.

Obviously masking doesn’t stop it. Otherwise how did 75 percent of kids get it? And that’s 75 percent as of February. The numbers have obviously gone higher since then. Only a matter of time before everyone has had it.

I despise MAGA as much as you do, but calling anyone's kids "spawn" reflects extremely poorly on you, to put it nicely.

Very possible your kids had it and never even knew.

No, I am the PP whose family had antibody testing and no one has had it.

Antibodies in blood are only detected for a few months. It’s impossible to say you’ve never had it. Are people really this stupid?

Nooo. We have had antibody tests multiple times since March 2020 - all negative. But you keep on calling people stupid. It’s sure to further the conversation.

Using dehumanizing language for groups of people you don’t like is wrong; using it for children is reprehensible.

+1. Also, those % are objectively not true. The state with the highest number of total cases per 100K is … Rhode Island. Per capita, Massachusetts has had more cases than Texas, Delaware had more than Mississippi. And every state had a large Omicron peak, whether they had restrictions in place or not.

Which, sadly, proves that all our NPIs were useless. GBD turns out to have been largely right.

75 percent of kids had covid -- by February! By now, it's probably closer to 95 percent. Turns out all that stuff we did to try to stop covid didnt really work...

Tell me you don't follow the news or any COVID statistics without telling me...

It did. We didn’t all have it at the same time - before vaccines.

People are no longer masking as diligently as they once did. And some never masked their kids because they are dumb MAGAs.
