Went to Five Guys and guess what I paid (inflation)

Family of four is probably $60 for a fast food meal. I rarely eat burgers, but when I do, it’s not hard to make a great burger at home. I could never duplicate Five Guys fries, but I try to avoid fries.

A family of four would be $100 bare minimum thanks to inflation.

“$100 bare minimum,” what are you ordering? I agree that Five Guys is expensive for fast food, but I think it’s more like $60, which is still a lot IMHO.

I like 5 guys and am not a particularly healthy eater. 5 guys has obnoxious portion sizes. NOBODY needs a regular burger at 5 guys. It is two patties. That is terrible for you! Also, even the smallest fry should be shared with at least one person.

If only they had a 1 patty burger on the menu….

Whole Foods? They mark up non house brands because they know you’ll pay. It’s Amazon they have all the data.

I have shopped at WF like 3 times since acquired. It’s $5/target.

It was on sale for $3.99 at giant the other day.

I consider myself middle class, and we don't eat out/take out at all anymore. My salary increases are not keeping up with inflation and even 5 Guys would be a treat. But on the bright side, my 52-year old body looks like it did at 32! (Yes I still choose to pay for my workouts), But dang if I'm not craving some 5 guys right now...

I’m sorry you can’t afford to eat out but no need to delude yourself

Can there ever be a thread that is snark-free?

Nope. Especially when it comes to inflation, gas prices, and food prices. I'm starting to think half of DCUM is married to the assistant assistant jr press secretary for the White House.

Its always:

"I'm sorry you can't afford..."

"Eating meat is bad for the environment..."

"...you should shop at ALDI's anyways"

Five Guys has always been expensive, even before the pandemic.

It’s 4.94 at Walmart.

This inflation and 'supply chain crisis' is ridiculous.

I just added it up, one little hamburger, one hotdog, one Cajun fries. That's $19 and change before adding taxes. So you must've had one of the bigger burgers and bigger fries.

I'd like to know what their profit margins are. When did those prices start, did they raise prices to cover costs or are they using "costs" as a cover?

I just paid $4 for a dozen eggs at my local store. Non fancy cage free or whatever. Reg extra large. They used to be $2.50. However food was always cheaper in the US than other similar industrialized nations.

Why? Eggs were .98 at Aldi yesterday. Bought 4 dozen.

HT was .98 last week. Got 2 dozen.

6 dozen eggs. $6.

I used to treat myself to McDonald’s once a month. Now a nugget meal + pie is $14 in Los Angeles, so I guess I’m done with that. makes me kind of sad, because I’m poor and cook everything at home from scratch and I just really looked forward to having a junk meals once a month. I had a whole ritual of watching a junky show while eating my junk food and it was just an indulgence I looked forward to every month. Things are so hard right now and I feel like I’ve cut back so much, I just felt defeated having to get rid of my last little treat. Trying to save up to leave California because it’s too hard to make it here.

I went on the app and made an order from a McDonald’s in LA. A 10 piece nugget meal and an apple pie came to $11.58
