Holy cow this is insane. We’re nowhere near the application process but none of these schools were even safeties for me with the exception of NYU which at the time I would’ve considered a peer school. I went to a top 25 school from a low ranked public where I was in the top 1% as a URM. I understood things had gotten harder and that my kids coming from a competitive school in a competitive area would have a tougher time but this blows my mind. |
A friend’s kid, an unhooked b student at a 4/10 public school in MD went to NYU |
Thanks for the random anecdote |
Yes, these schools look about right for middle of the pack kids at NCS too. I also agree with the posted NCS list above. The miDdle of the pack ACT scores are usually around 33 or 34. GPAs will look really low to a public school parent, so not even going to mention them because it will start an argument about whether these kids are actually getting into these schools. These are the B/B+ students with occasional As and even a few Cs. Grading is tough and As are hard to come by. Your kid will do fine, OP. |
| Whats the average profile at Big 3? 3.2-3.4 GPA, 1350 SAT, 32 ACT or thereabouts? |
What does the bolded part mean? I truly do not understand. |
My Ds…. |
Average sat is just over 1400. Profile is probably 3.5/1410. That's my guess. Also, not all grading is the same at the various "Big3" schools. I have kids at STA and NCS and NCS is far stingier with grades. My impression is that Sidwell is also stingy but GDS kids have higher GPAs. |
| Middle of the pack kids at Big3 or other top private schools do better in admissions than middle of the pack public school kids. |
Sounds about right, my son’s college counselor told us that there is a national shortage of male applicants, providing an advantage this admission cycle. |
Plenty of boys are getting rejected too. Where the sdmit rates are different, it’s only by a few percent. |
I agree average is 3.2-3.4 and 1400-1500/32-34 |
