An anxious girl's obsession with being diagnosed with an "identity" condition suggests to me that it's on the horizon. OP, get your child off the internet. |
100% this!!!! |
OP proceed with care here.
I was similar to your daughter at 11, except I had no idea what diagnosis existed. I just told my mother that something was wrong. I knew something was wrong. but I had no idea what. My mother thought I was perfect because I was "gifted" and had friends. So I was misdiagnosed with anxiety. Three decades later, and she believes me now. I still don't have a clear diagnosis( I am not looking for one), but it's clear that I am atypical. My mother regrets not listening to me. There was probably nothing she could do for me at the time. But she wishes she was not dismissive of my concerns. She told my siblings that one of her biggest parenting mistakes was not trusting my judgment back then. She is a good mother, and I don't blame her for dismissing my concerns as anxiety. However, my 11 year old self would have loved to have my mother by my side while I tried to figure out my issues. |
DP. Thanks for sharing your experience, but OP’s situation is so very different: her daughter is obsessed with obtaining a specific diagnosis and is seeking it out specifically (whether she has the condition or not). PP OTOH, is still seeking the source of the issue. OP: I agree with the person above who strongly urged: - get your teen OFF the internet ASAP! Especially: get her off all social media (especially TikTok and Insta). |
